Why Was The Civil War Inevitable

As tensions continued to build because of the constitution allowing slavery, the South felt it was being backed up into a corner. (Schultz, 2013) The problem was, the South's entire economy depended on slave labor. The North was already industrially sound, however in the South, it was the way of life and was based upon an agricultural society rather than an industrial society. The civil war was inevitable because the North and the South would not compromise on issues of slavery, sectionalism, and states rights; they had completely different political views. The South wanted to be a separate nation with plantations and slaves while the North wanted a whole nation with equal rights, The election of Abraham Lincoln upset the people of the
south because they believed he would abolish slavery. Although slavery was not the main reason for the, this set the stage for the Civil War. In 1864, slavery had begun to disappear due to the Confederate states abolishing it from the North. ( Garrison, 2016) The question, “Was the Civil War inevitable?” is important, however I feel asing “What if the Civil War had never happened?” is a vital thought. What kind of equal rights would our nation hold? I believe with the abandonment of Slavery in the North prior to the war, it would have went away in the South as well, without war.
