This essay is going to explain why the sinking of the titanic was such a terrible tragedy. Now the reason why the titanic sank was because it hit an iceberg. This wouldn’t have been so tragic but 6 of it 16 watertight compartments were rapidly filling up with water. The titanic could have stayed afloat if 4 or less of it compartments were filling with water. So in this essay, I would be specifically establishing the mistakes made by the captain and crew aboard the titanic to make her maiden voyage such tragedy. I am going to talk about the two main reasons why I think the captain and crew contributed to the sinking of the titanic. Firstly, I would like to bring up how the captain had seven ice warning but every time refusing to slow down or choose another path to follow. Put the rest of the crew and passengers life at risk. I believe that the reason that the captain ignores the warning was because of the pre-publicity. They said the titanic was practically unsinkable and even god couldn’t sink it. This meant that it would have been very hard for them to move so instead they put their engines in reverse and turned hard starboard (this meaning to the left side). This made the impact even worse as if they had just gone straight and hit it head on they would have damaging one of the sixteen watertight doors, but instead they were hit in the side creating a massive hole in the side of the ship damaging six of the sixteen watertight doors. Meaning that it wouldn’t be able to stay
