Couple hours later (11:40 p.m.) Frederick Fleet spotted an iceberg ahead. The iceberg struck the Titanic on the starboard (right) side of her bow. 14 feet of water were poured in and risen in the front prat of the ship. Everyone started getting nervous and scared mainly because they thought they were all going to die.
The captain was told the ship can only stay afloat for a couple of hours. He gave the order to call for help over the radio. Couple minutes later he announced to uncover the lifeboats and to get passengers and crew ready on deck. There was only room in the lifeboats for about 1,100 and there was an estimated of 2,227 on board. The lifeboats began being loaded with children first than women. The Carpathia, southeast of the Titanic by about 58 miles, picked up the distress call and began sailing to rescue passengers. As I said earlier April 14th, 1912 will go down in history as a day when disaster struck. Not only was it the largest and most luxurious/expensive liner at the time. Along with its sinking, more than half of its passengers were buried at sea.
