Maturity is a big step to take when coming from middle school to high school, especially going into an Early College High School. Being at an Early College school, students are expected to know many aspects but most importantly, expected to be mature with high expectations. There are several students that attend high school that get suspended, or go to ISS, and …show more content…
care less about their education. Attending an Early College High School, acting immature would not be tolerated, because of the importance of the educational path. Having students that carry themselves like that will not be expected. Having students that act immature will eventually give a bad reputation for the school. Therefore, this is one reason why I feel that not all schools in the United States should be considered an Early College.
Another point that I would like to express is students not having the motivation do the challenging work that is given.
Many students have a mindset of Early College having hard work. However, the work is not hard when students study and try their best. One of Early College’s requirements is to take the ACT in the tenth grade, which is a year earlier than the normal time you take it. The test score will determine if the student qualifies to take classes at the college offered. Then the student will then begin taking high school classes, additional to the college classes. A numerous of students would have the mindset of not doing it because it is too much work. Students are not academically ready because of the future education. Yes, there are a lot of responsibilities to pay an attention but students would not want to do it, which is a second reason I think Early College is for all high
schools.
The last point I would like to evaluate on is the curriculum. This also correlates to my last point, but in college the farther you go, the harder the work, it’s not like high school where you get ten problems, and one page papers. You have to know how to write papers in MLA, APA, know how to cite sources in college you have to know how to survive and catch up. Knowing how to move at a steady paste is very important during an early college high environment.
Having all high schools in the United States be replaced by Early College is an excellent chance for all students because of the great educational path it offers for the future. I believe that changing all high schools into an Early College will allow students to mature, and excel with a higher level of education in a little amount of time. This school also allows students to be challenged to do high school and college work at the same time. Even though it might sound tough, it will make things easier for the individual in their future education.
In conclusion, the discussions about having high schools become an Early College in the United States are still questionable. However, I do not agree with it taking over all high schools in the United States. Having to place a lot of factors in that most kids are not ready for like not being education ready, not being mature and the curriculum early college has to offer.
