Why We Should Not Be Ab Early College
Early Colleges all around the world are designed to present students with unique opportunities, to better themselves in succeeding in life. Early College’s purpose is for students to graduate high school not only with a high school diploma, but an associate’s degree. However, I do not believe all high schools should follow this academic program, by allowing all high schools to turn into an Early College. Although this program is a great opportunity for many students, all schools should not be ab Early College because there are several students who are not mature enough to deal with stress, they are not motivated to do the challenging work, and the Early College curriculum is too demanding for some of the age group.
Maturity is a big step to take when coming from middle school to high school, especially going into an Early College High School. Being at an Early College school, students are expected to know many aspects but most importantly, expected to be mature with high expectations. There are several students that attend high school that get suspended, or go to ISS, and

Many students have a mindset of Early College having hard work. However, the work is not hard when students study and try their best. One of Early College’s requirements is to take the ACT in the tenth grade, which is a year earlier than the normal time you take it. The test score will determine if the student qualifies to take classes at the college offered. Then the student will then begin taking high school classes, additional to the college classes. A numerous of students would have the mindset of not doing it because it is too much work. Students are not academically ready because of the future education. Yes, there are a lot of responsibilities to pay an attention but students would not want to do it, which is a second reason I think Early College is for all high

The Early College Initiative at CCNY was started in 2005 to develop and support a local 6-12 school called City College Academy of the Arts (CCAA) located in the Washington Heights area. We focus on helping our students not only to earn up to 60 college credits while in high school, but to also develop those skill sets that are going to make them successful college students. We ensure that our students understand that a college degree is accessible, affordable, and attainable. We do this by starting the college awareness process in our 6-8 grades and build on that momentum in grades 9-12. Students are dual enrolled and start taking their first college course in the 9th grade and start to come the CCNY’s campus in…

In the essay, “Two Years Are Better Than Four”, the author Liz Addison, who attended Piedmont Virginia Community College and Southern Maine Community College, shares her opinion on the importance of community colleges. She responses to Rick Perlstein who wrote “What’s the Matter with College”. Perlstein believes that community college doesn’t matter anymore and in response to that, Addison argues that community college still matters. Addison mentions that community college is better than university by describing how community college is a self-discovery place where students find out of who they are as people. Though I concede that a two-year college is better than four-year university, I still insist that a community college in my eyes is a…

This brings up the question as to why many people would so plan to go to college. This is also answered by the Survey data retrieved by the federal Department of Education. It is stated, “some of these students may aspire to college in the same way that many of us aspire to exercise: it is something they would like to have done but not something they would like to do.” In simpler terms, they would like to receive the benefits without doing the work. This solves the reason as to why so many high school students plan to go to college. Having a degree is an excellent key to the workforce, but the process of achieving it is very tedious. However, students will still face it to get the…

The most significant educational opportunity that I have taken advantage of is my decision to seek out and attend an early college high school. This decision presented barriers of its own––a fifty minute commute, an unconventional schedule, an advanced workload, and a lack of traditional high school sports and events––but my devotion to a better education led me to overcome these barriers. This devotion to a better education within the high school setting is the same reason that I am interested in the UC system. The high school that I decided to attend is what is known as an early college high school. Students are concurrently enrolled in both high school courses and college courses while still in high school. This type of education opportunity…

To a student in an era of globalization, economic recession, and strong job competition, it can appear as if a college degree is the ultimate solution to one’s problems. However, finding the right post-highschool path is often like shopping for clothes: One choice rarely fits all people. College can often cost more than the degree pursued is worth. College also isn’t the only way one can get a good job outside of high school. Furthermore, college is not for everyone. Not all students should go to college.…

Every year a class of high school seniors graduate and then begin their lives as adults. While the choices they made in high school are important, the choices they make after this will be of the utmost importance. A decision of how to start their lives as adults either joining the workforce, the armed forces, or attending college are the choices they have to make. A lot goes into which direction the student will steer his or her life. Pressures of going to college come from not only school teachers, but family, friends, and peers also. Teachers tell their students that college is the best way to go if they want to succeed in life, as many careers require further education beyond that of a high school diploma. Parents are always glad to see…

This option encourages all students to strive for further education since the school does not offer any classes that would be repeated in college. Instead, students would understand that attending college would provide them with additional skills needed for them to succeed in the future. In fact, learning these skills in college are even more beneficial as they focus on a certain field of study, teaching students more in-depth skills relating to their preferred area of work, rather than giving students a general overview of all the skills in high school, before students have decided on their future career plans. Despite the benefits, this option promotes failure for the students who are planning on stopping their education after high school. Without an opportunity to even learn about the skills they could be lacking, this option leaves students ignorant to the necessary skills of the workforce, causing these students to lead unsuccessful lives and contributing to an unqualified and uneducated…

A high school diploma is not where your tour in education, it is only the beginning of a new route. The commencement of building your success in the real world is what follows. That students begin researching their options in higher education during their sophomore year in high school is indispensable. Some students do follow this recommendation and others wait until the last minute. College is important to me for many reasons. For example, In the article, “Getting Ready for College Early : Steps 1,2,3 & 4 “ , by the U.S Department of Education, it states that someone who goes to college earns more than someone who does not. By going to college, you will have a higher chance of having a better job and win more money. College is great and can help you have a better future. Additionally, In the 4th article by Allen Grove, he states that your record form your middle school years don’t appear on your college applications. You can enjoy your middle school years without being so stressed about what you do and it going on your record. That I think is something positive , since middle school is one of the worst years for a teen.…

The Early College was the push I needed to better myself as a student and as a person. In high school, I received stellar grades and test scores without trying. I never needed to study, and I did the bare minimum for a majority of my assignments. Occasionally, I would find an assignment that I loved and go way beyond the requirement. I was a teacher favorite, but I was disliked by other students because I was a bit of a show off with my intelligence. I never needed time management skills, so I never developed them. While I was received good grades, I did not improve any of my skills or abilities. This program helped me find my faults and make changes that have made a world of difference.…

Imagine someone being 17 years old with a few months left until high school graduation and on their own with the future to think about; that person was me. I decided that I was going to wait a couple of years before I went back to school and I really wish that I wouldn’t have. If I wouldn’t have waited, I would already be done with my degree and making good money. Students should attend college immediately after high school to better their education, achieve independence, and earn higher wages.…
