A pair of Ray Ban sunglasses, a Polo Ralph Lauren shirt, Khaki shorts that extend to an inch above the knees; what is this attire associated with? Most college students would say "frat boys." This is one of the stereotypes associated with fraternities. Often in life and in literature, people find themselves in overpowering situations. This is what Herodotus was referring to when he wrote, “Men are at the mercy of events and cannot control them.” In other words, people suffer not because of their own actions, but because of the situation in which they find themselves. This is true in considering Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck because George and Lennie, the two protagonists, and other minor characters suffer due to events beyond their control. Herodotus’ quotation is also true in considering William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, because the protagonists, Romeo and Juliet, are also overpowered by the forces that surround them. Herodotus’ quote proves particularly true in considering the setting of both novels, the conflicts within the two texts, and the characterization of the protagonists and even the minor characters within the novels.…

Martin Luther King, JR once said “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in the moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” This quote means that we only see people’s true color when they are faced with trouble or problems. I agree with this quote because you never know the people’s feelings until you know the problem they are faced with or are facing. Monster by Walter Dean Myers and Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson used theme and setting to prove the critical lens. The main characters in both these novels overcome challenging situations by taking advantage of the opportunities presented to them. In their struggle to make the best of their circumstances, the main character Melinda in Speak and Steve in Monster illustrate the critical lens.…

The ethical lens inventory exercise is very useful and something that I have lost sight of over the years. I was first introduced to this concept when I first applied for a sales position over a decade ago. After completing the exercise, the results of my answers places me in the Rights and Responsibility Lens. Since no one is perfect, having blind spots is inevitable, my blind spot as a result of my answers states that "belief that motive justifies method." My strengths are reason and self knowledge, whereas my weakness is becoming judgmental and legalistic.…

All the human beings see the world through different lenses. The lenses that I see the world through are Hope, non-judgmental, un-selfishness and Equality. Hope is one of the most important aspects of my life; it allows me to see my future in a positive perspective and gives me incentive to move forward. Hope stops me from being selfish. An unselfish person tends to be happier then selfish, as this portrays me as a negative person. Which leads to nonjudgmental. Being nonjudgmental makes me productive and adopting the biased and prejudicial approach because in many cases, they might be making assumptions based upon what they have seen superficially only on the superficially without sensing the truth that lies beneath. Non-judgemental and equality…

The article talked about these specific pictures because each photo represents different things and different modes when looking at the image. The five elements in photography are the thing itself, the details, the frame, the time, the vintage point. Aperture, also known as f-stop, is a fancy name for the opening in a camera lens. This opening controls the amount of light that is let in, which greatly affects the photo. A large aperture allows a lot of light, while a small aperture allows less light. The cameras aperture is formed out of small, wedge-shaped aperture blades, which form a jagged circle inside the lens. These blades open and close to control the size of the hole. An apertures size is referred to as an f number. The f number is a ratio of focal length to aperture diameter. The smaller the f number, the bigger the opening, and vice versa. As the f-stops decrease in size, each number lets half the amount of light in as the previous one.…
