Wild Sports Fanatic Of America
Sports prove an empowering portion of culture, especially in America, today. Therefore, each citizen is automatically accountable for understanding sports, or at least football, basketball, and baseball (the only ones that genuinely matter). However, sports are not for everyone. For some, they are solely uninteresting. For others, they are far too complicated to understand. Rather than suffering through apprehension and embarrassment while attending a sporting event or party, take heart! Luckily, there are various strategies of pretending to be knowledgeable about sports. The most prominent of these tactics are the quiet supporter or the uproarious super fan. To begin, one practice of faking that you know sports in their entirety is by being the reserved fan of the party. First, you must display a slight interest in the sporting event without allowing others to perceive you as emotionally and passionately committed to the game. Thus, others will …show more content…
To start, you might as well throw a party yourself. There is no better way to trick people into believing you know every detail about sports than by throwing an exhilarating Super Bowl party. However, do not step foot into a party scene without being decked out in the idolized team’s colors and logo, because the more gear you own of a team the higher seniority and credibility you receive. Next, some may say to convert to the group’s dynamic to fit in with their sport- absorbed attitudes, but this suggestion encourages you to take your measures above and beyond. The more attention you bring to yourself through obnoxious and outrageous comments the better, right? In doing so, you may try bashing the other team for any move they make. In fact, bash your own team (because they are absolutely brainless for calling that play!). If you take these actions upon yourself, you are sure to trick others into believing you are the all-powerful of

Athletic teams strive off marketing and really rely on the fans, or in other words, customers. They call us fans, but to them we are just another customer who will pay outrageous prices for a shirt or a beer at the ball park. Do athletic teams really care about fans, or do they just really want our money? We pay so much money for parking, the tickets to get in, and then for food at the venue. It is almost like they take advantage of us and just use our money. Athletic teams try so hard with the marketing mix to get our business, because they have so many more teams to compete with. Athletic teams are in some way a huge business and do require a lot of money to operate. It makes one realize where this “customer metaphor” can really take…

Imagine 96.9 million people watching the same thing, ingesting copious amounts of food and beer, and cheering maliciously for a squad that may or may not be their team of choice. I grew up in South Africa where the Super bowl is not nearly as big as it is in the United States. I was naive to the idea of watching any big game besides the World Cup. When I moved to the US I did not know what the Super bowl was. 198 countries watch the Super bowl and it is aired in 25 different languages across the world. I can’t help but think to myself that this is just a game and I don’t really care who wins, even though my surrounding suggested otherwise. I am sitting in a room full of diehard Seahawks fans. All of the furniture has been moved to each wall in the little room so that everyone can see the big flat screen TV. Beers are cracked, chip bags are opened, and we are about to watch the most watched TV program in United States history, the Super Bowl. Bronco’s fans are turned away and the guys roar at them as they try to enter the small apartment. “If you are not supporting the Seahawks you can stand up and get the hell out” one of my friends yelled as non-supporters walked away. Bud Light is the beer of choice in the room and Doritos are the chip of choice. As the game is about to start the room ignites and everyone is immediately fired up. The commercials play through the loud chatter in the apartment and they seem to be unimportant except for a few that are considered memorable. The Super Bowl is a spectacle and there is nothing else like it. The Super Bowl is a large reflection of American culture. Through media, commercials, and the atmosphere that this game creates, patriotism and masculinity are unintentionally the main aspects of this spectacle.…

In the Fall of 2010, I watched my first televised football game from beginning to end. I sat down beside my older brother, Nick, and watched him as he analyzed every play of a Green Bay Packers game. He would scream at the tv when a bad play happened but would rejoice when a good one followed. I wanted to be just like him and know everything about football. I watched every game that season and annoyingly asked Nick every question that came to mind throughout the year. On February 6th, 2011 the Green Bay Packers won their 4th Superbowl title and I knew football like the back of my hand. After the game my brother said to me, “There’s no way you could ever not be a Packers fan now. You’re their good luck charm.” as I nodded, smiling ear to ear.…

Following a sports team, or just watching a sport in general is depicted in the article as being good for a fan. Kirchheimer states, “Sports fandom is really a tribal thing…a phenomenon that ca help fulfill our psychological need to belong-providing similar benefits to the social support achieved through religious, professional, or other affiliations” (Kirchheimer 294). Sports are all about grouping; first by the type of sport (football, soccer, golf) and then it is broken down into specific teams, players, and colors. Being a fan of one sport, and then a fan of a specific team within that sport places one into a “clique” per say. This creates a sense of feeling like one is a part of something, in which we are said to need for our state of mind. A bond is formed amongst sports fans.…

At a baseball game it is considered good to yell out bad things at the away team, you usually do this with other fans which you most of the time do not know, you also scream with fellow fans when your team does a good thing, whether they score or someone just made a spectacular web gem. All of this is in good fun and the fact that you are able to share all this with random strangers is amazing, because a lot of times people do not like to step out of their comfort zone and talk to new people, but at a ball game you are able to do that no matter what kind of person you are. Through the game people are able to step out of their comfort zone and meet new people and interact with people they have never met before. Although if your team is the away team be careful because some fans really hate the other team and sometimes do crazy things.…

After a long, weary day of work on a Sunday, I always look forward to entering the sports room of the house. Upon leaving work, I rush to my comfortable home. Due to the air conditioner being on all the time , I open the door and feel a cool breeze. I get under the warm , cozy covers and look at the patterns of navy blue and white colors on the wall reminding me of the ocean tides at sunset. Since I like the temperature in the sports room being on a low setting, I also like to drink a cold, refreshing soda. When I turn on my seventy-inch flat screen television, I always change the channel to Sunday Night Football. Watching the Dallas Cowboys is a priority for me on Sunday nights. The thrill of my favorite National American Football team scoring…

Sports play such a huge role in our society; many people form their lives around watching or playing a certain sport. In my house, when football season starts, my dad and brother watch football religiously every Sunday and Monday. On Sundays some of my dad's friends come over to watch the game, my mom prepares snacks and lunch for "the guys". When the game is on they are so interested in it, that they have no idea what is going on around them, I try to talk to my dad when the game is on and he always seems to ignore me. I love how they get so into the game, and cheer really loud and yell at the television. For them like many other people, they have found football to be a hobby, something to do in there past time. They have formed habits around watching the game.…

An individual can be active in sports one or all of the following three different ways; they can be a participant, an in-person spectator, and/or a viewer on television or radio. According to the 2015 Participation Report by the Physical Activity Council (2015), of the 292 million Americans that are age six and older, 209 million are active participants in some type of sports activity. In a 2008 report, Humphreys and Ruseski reported that 277 million tickets were sold to fans who attended games at one of 26 major U.S. sports in 2005 (p.13). They also cite the National Sporting Goods Association report on television viewership. According to the report the top three sports watched by American audiences are the National Football League (105,874,000 viewers), Major League Baseball (76,744,000 viewers), and National Basketball Association (60,877,000 viewers) (p.17). All of these numbers tell us that sports have a huge impact on the way Americans spend their time and money. One day I watched a football game and observed the spectators present that day. There were fans from both the teams, school newspaper staff, yearbook staff, former high school football players, the players' relatives, and other spectators. At the end of the game, I asked my high school team's wide receiver and friend, " Why do want to a score a touchdown?" to which he replied, "For the audience." From then I realized that football players are aware of the audience when they play. They are aware of their fans, journalists, and the people who learn from the game. Football players play well to impress their audience and get better comments from journalists. In the case of my friend, his awareness towards the audience motivated him to play well and had his dream to…
