One of the longest Trails marked by foot in the world is the Appalachian Trail. The Appalachian Trail is about 2,180 miles long it passes through a ground breaking 14 states. The Appalachian Trail is mostly located in Virginia While West Virginia occupies the least amount of miles in the trail. This beautiful scenic trail in all goes from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine. In order the trail passes through Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. The trail goes through mountains rivers little towns and roads, but ultimately it’s a wildlife hike. On many occasions it has been called the true hike because of its length and many dimensions. The Trail was made by Benton MacKaye who was a forester. MacKaye wrote the plan for the trail after the death of his wife in 1921. The point of him creating the trail was to connect a series of farms and wilderness work study camps for “city dwellers”. The purpose of the trail was never meant to be a tourist attraction or a hike that became a focus in later days of its development. In MacKaye’s search for help on his project Hikers were the people who took up to publishing the trail and building it. After MacKaye and His Back up Perkins died Myron H. Avery took over the project. On august 14, 1937 the Appalachian Trail was finally on the ground. A major hurricane, Depression and world war two were big factors in the slow development of the trail. But allowed restoration and more people to come together to fix and add on to the trail.
