India’s 11th President A.P.J Abdul Kalam or Avul Pakir Jainulabd-een Abdul Kalam was born on 15th October 1931. He is an Indian Scientist and administrator who served as president of India from 2002 to 2007. Mr Kalam was born in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. He studied physics at the the St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli, and aerospace engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Chennai. Before he became the president he worked as an aerospace engineer with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Mr Kalam is also known as Missile Man of India for the work he did to develop ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology. To read a book and be inspired by it is a wonderful feeling. I am at my wits end as to how to review an autobiography, but it would be right to say that this book is inspirational and needs to be read. It is a journey through hardships, through the life of a man who inspired the nation. It shows a different perspective to things, one that we usually don’t even think of perceiving. This book is a really inspirational book with not just inspirational words, but some quotes which enforce us to give it a thought. One quote I would like to quote - “He who knows others is learned, but the wise one is the one who knows himself, learning without wisdom is of no use.” I chose this particular quote because this quote tells me to look within ourselves too, to understand someone one should understand what others are and their life. The life of this great personality was not different from any normal person, only thing which was different about Mr. Kalam was his perception of the world according to him and around him and how he had a determination to achieve his goal by putting little extra efforts, how he was willing to sacrifice for the common good irrespective of whether he was happy with it or not, how he never forgot who he really was and didn’t get lost in the hype of his achievements. He had a great vision which he didn’t see for himself but the vision was his country India. This book gives confidence to us, Indians that what we can do for our motherland India.
This book talks about how many people have had their contributions in making Mr. Kalam, what he is today. This book is the story of Kalam's rise from the state of being unknown, unimportant and unconspicuous and Mr. Kalam’s personal and professional struggles, as well as the story of Agni, Prithvi, Akash, Trishul and Nag-missiles that have now become household names in India.
