In this assignment I will be working in a team of four designing a secure wireless network on behalf of WeCare for a delivery company Rapid Pickup based on the requirements and by convincing the decisions maker of the company through fact based reports and presentations which clearly demonstrate that the proposed design works best for the company.
WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) – Cellular phones/Handheld devices
WAP or also known as Wireless Application Protocol is a set of protocols for connecting cellular phones and other handheld devices to the internet. WAP supports most wireless networks including CDPD, CDMA, GSM, PDC, PHS, TDMA, FLEX, ReFLEX, iDEN, TETRA, DECT, DataTAC, and Mobitex. WAPs interact with several mobile phones.
WAP provides the following benefits:
-Bringing internet content and advanced data services to wireless devices.
- Access web content through HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) to WML (Wireless Markup Language)
- Security features of WAP allow end users to do comfortable transaction of passwords etc over wireless network.
- Easy to use and highly portable communications and information tool.
- WAP based micro browsers can access an array of innovative, value added services, which are rapidly coming to market.
As well as benefits there are some drawbacks such as small screen, graphics, slight delay in connection and etc.
In conclusion WeCare would recommend the usage of WAP which would really benefit Rapid Pickup in terms of more efficiency, convenience etc.
Design
Pre-Install work
First of all before actually designing the wireless network, a site survey is a must and the following points measure out the importance of site survey.
When installing WLAN for a company areas of dead space may not be tolerated ensure blanket coverage min bleeding of signal meet per user bandwidth required
