P3 - Identify different types of communication devices
Introduction
DTE - data terminal equipment
Data terminal equipment are any devices that connect to the internet. Such devices include computers, mobile phones and even appliances like washing machines. Each DTE is supplied with a MAC address
Data Terminal Equipment (DTE) is any equipment that is either a source or destination for digital data. DTE do not generally communicate with each other to do so they need to use DCE to carry out the communication. DTE does not need to know how data is sent or received; the communications details are left to the DCE.

In a complex network which uses directly connected routers to provide serial links, one serial interface of each connection must be configured with a clock rate to provide synchronisation.
Network Design Diagram Components
1. Router
Routers are the gateways to the internet. The device operates on the level 3 (network) of the OSI model, and it connects two networks together. Routers are often automatic and utilise an embedded OS to deal with communications.
Routers use IP (internet protocol) to identify connected devices, which is then used to control communications. The router may connect to these devices through wires, or through wireless. The router is essentially responsible for controlling communications through forwarding packets to the correct recipients across the least congested channel.
2. Wireless Access Point
A wireless access point (WAP) is a device that usually connects to a router and acts like a switch. WAPs utilise wifi to connect to devices to allow communication between them. WAPs are used to extend the wireless reach of a network or to allow wireless access to that network. Unlike a router or switch, the WAP does not filter data and has no inbuilt firewall, so does not add to the security of the …show more content…
This means that the transmission of data can be sent or received to a device and never the other way around. Radio broadcasting and communicating with a printer is an example of such communication, where the communication medium is used for one-way communication.m
Duplex
Duplex is similar to simplex but instead allows communication to occur both ways at any time. This means that the communication medium allows data to flow both ways on the same channel. A popular example of this would be a telephone line, as being able to talk over one another is characteristic of duplex data transmission.
Half-Duplex
Half duplex is the mid-ground between duplex and simplex, where communication can occur either way but not at the same time. A’walkie talkie’ is an example of a half-duplex device where only one person can talk at a time, which calls for specific signatures such as ’over’ to signal a message has been transmitted.
Parallel
When data is sent using parallel data transmission, multiple data bits are transmitted over multiple channels at the same time. This means that data can be sent much faster than using serial transmission
