Witnessing Report 1 Monica Phillips
Witnessing Report 1
One of my witnessing encounters was last week and it involved a clerk at a retail store. I was walking through the store to find the items I needed. I met Regina, a store clerk and I proceeded to communicate with her concerning items in the store and her day. She replied that she was having a bad week due to some unfortunate set of circumstances. I listened and we talked for a while as she restocked items in the store. She was very depressed about the way things were happening in her life. Which led me to ask Regina if she had any kind of spiritual beliefs? Regina communicated with me that she did not believe that there is a God or is not a God. Therefore, I ask Regina to read some scriptures out loud and she read Romans 3:23 and it said: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; then I asked her does this say to you. She replied that everyone has done something wrong at some point in time in his or her life. At first, she thought that no one else has made as many mistakes as she did. She was very receptive in reading and sharing her thoughts on the scriptures I asked her to read. The next scripture was Romans 6:23 it says: 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord; then I asked her what does this say to you? She responded by saying sin leads to death but, God gives me life through Jesus. I replied yes and because sin can send a person to hell. God allows us another chance through his son Jesus and he wants a relationship with each one of us. Now is decision time for Regina so, I asked her are you a sinner? She replied yes. The next question I asked her was do she want forgiveness of sins? She replied yes. Next, I asked her do she believe Jesus died on the cross for her and rose again. She replied yes. The next question I asked her was she willing to surrender her life to Jesus. She said yes with tears streaming down her face. My last question I asked her Are you

Eyewitness testimonies are considered unreliable and were neglected for helping gather evidence in Steven Truscotts case. There are two witnesses that provided evidence that indicates that a car could have been present where Lynn Harper was rapped. George Edens found Lynn Haper's body and said you could see car skid marks. Bob Lawson said he saw a car parked near spot but he had never seen a car there before. This all corresponds with Steven Truscotts statement that he left Lynn Harper near highway 8 and saw her get into a car. Jocelyne Godette who was 13 provide the police with evidence that did not match up. She testified that she went to the bush looking for Steven that evening because they had a date. But previously she had said she went looking for Lynn. She also asked a local farmer to change his stament to match up with hers. People believed Jocelyne even though her evidence was false and made Steven look responsible . Gordon Logan who was 12, told police he looked up from fishing and saw Steven and Lynn ride across the bridge. Then, shortly afterwards he saw…

Amanda Stuart Fisher’s article “Bearing Witness” is a short reading explaining issues in our contemporary society. The reading discusses feminism frequently, which is the support for women's rights to improve the equality of both sexes. A takeaway from the reading is how us as white men have a hard time fully understand someone else's culture, and how we must take steps to mitigate this closed minded view. This relates with the reading that was titled “You Just Made The Blueprint To Suit Yourselves” by David Kerr. He describes the Yao people having a very “unique culture which has been influenced by nineteenth-century contacts with the Swahili” (page 102).…

Many of us, throughout our lives, blindly follow those in front of us--never stopping to think about those the people around and behind us, or experiences that have lead us to the point in our lives that we are at now.around us or those behind us. This painting entitled, “Offering Truth”, by Kendra Baird illustrates what it is like to venture beyond the mainstream society has created to extend love and kindness to those who may have wandered off the straight and narrow. Furthermore, this not only relates to Baird herself, but also to the views of the painting. it also depicts the innocence of youth, as it appears that the people in line are adults, while the girl in need and the girl offering aid appear to be young. Baird uses color, shading,…

"Persistent vegetative state is a specific clinical diagnosis for a patient who is permanently unconscious. All thought, all memory, all ability to interact with the world around them in any way is gone" (LLP). William H. Colby who argued the case for Nancy and her family stated this in his opening statement during the hearing. His petitioners included Nancy herself, and her family and friends. (LLP) Nancy Beth Cruzan was involved in a serious automobile accident in 1983, which left her in a vegetative state. Her life was sustained for a few weeks before the question came to, how do we maintain life? The Amish are a charming people, gentle oddities in today's techno world. They don't do handguns, cars, or telephones, and they're exceedingly clannish in their desire to keep out technology generally and outsiders in particular. The basis for Witness is an age-old fish-out-of-water story: a modern man trying to fit in with the quaint Amish in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Taken on that basis alone, Witness is a success; it's when the "real" world intrudes, with its drugs and crooked cops and dead partners, that the movie falls apart.…

Discouragement can stop you before you get started as most of us professed witnesses fall easily into using this as an excuse for not being on the battlefield fighting for lost souls. Feelings of I am not good enough or I do not speak well or I do not have the gift of evangelism or God did not call me to go, send the pastor are all excuses that breed discouragement and renders them to a defeated posture caused by lies and deceit from the evil one.…

I took a chance once and confided in an older adult female who was a professed Christian and lay counselor at the church I was attending at that period. I asked the woman “how does a person get healed, delivered, and recover from a dark past filled with child abuse, neglect, and abandonment?” The woman answered in a sharp tone of voice “ all of us have suffered to some degree or another; because God does not intend for persons to suffer, we all need to get over things and reach out to others based on what the good book (Bible) tells us” (Christian Combatants). After mulling over the answer I received, I told the woman that I was referring to myself regarding the question, and then I said: “I am presently experiencing life difficulties both mentally, emotionally, and spiritually that might have to do with some dark past events that happened in my childhood.” “Also, I feel I need counseling for alcohol and drug abuse issues.” The Christian lay counselor then said to me “I think that you should make a stronger effort to attend more Bible studies and fellowship with others who share similar or same life issues as yourself.” After that comment, I decided to seek counseling outside of the church for drug and alcohol use issues. I wound up seeing a female therapist who to my knowledge was not a Christian counselor, but was able to treat me for complex trauma…

My faith journey has always been about growing in faith in order to assist others in the communities, countries or anywhere God’s desire will lead me to make a different in people lives. It has always been my goal or dream growing up in Liberia (West Africa) to work in the kingdom of God in order to convey the word of God to his people that are still in darkness. However, like I mentioned earlier, I was eager as a little boy to attend church with my uncle because he was the only family member that was attending church as well as a deacon of the church but my parents couldn’t allowed me to attend church with my uncle because Christianity was considered a (taboo). My uncle was from my mother side of the family and because of his faith in Christ; his entire household was treated or considered as outcast in the community. In any event, I moved into my uncle's house in order to be able to attend church with him and his family. After a while, the new reached my parents that I had been attending church with my uncle because my parents were living on the far. I vividly remembered this particular evening when my mother came from the farm and noticed that I was not at my house and I had been staying at my uncle house, she proceeded to my uncle’s house. Upon her arrival, we were sitting in group studying a bible and she went and took her seat calmly in one of the dining room chairs. At that point I knew something bad was going to occur so I went to my uncle at the end of our bible study and informed him not to allow me to go with my mother because she's going to something that I will regret because my mother was against of her children attending church. After having the conversation with my uncle, I heard my mother calling my uncle and informed him that she would like for she and I to leave at once because she was having lots of works on the farm that she needed assisting with and my uncle didn't have any…
