Initially, one can identify the use of ethos, the use of a credible source to promote the desired product/disclaimer. In this particular advertisement, we can see that near the bottom of the advertisement there is a department listed, which is a branch of the American government-providing credibility. Also, another aspect of ethos is that the designer used a woman, whom is not necessarily a familiar icon, but it represents the millions of American women that will be able to benefit from the equality that aiding in the war effort will provide. Secondly, the advertisement uses pathos, a persuasion by using emotion through the large bold text surrounding the picture. The sarcastic demoralizing statement, “Turns out you gals are useful after all!,” is used it affects the emotions of those woman who feel like they are useless if they don’t contribute to the effort. It provides hope for change, and anger in those who feel personally attacked by this rude demeanor and sarcastic tone, which in turn wants them to persuade in the war effort, as a form of ‘rebellion’.
