The vocabulary Brown used, or Clara had said, was highly sophisticated. The use of sophisticated word choice allows for non-vague descriptions as it allows for more detail. One example of using high sophisticated word choice in the excerpt is as follows: “I strove in vain to believe in the assuaging influence of time, to look forward to the birth-day of new hopes, and the re-exaltation of that luminary, of whose effulgencies I had so long and so liberally partaken.” (Clara, Par. 2). In the quote, Clara talks about how influenced time is doing her wrong, by using the word “assuaging,” and hoping to see renewed hope that would make her life better. Clara said the words “re-exaltation of that luminary” which means that she wanted extreme happiness. The quote also used words like “effulgences” to note that she wants a brighter future. In other parts of the excerpt, words like “imbecility” was used to create a larger emphasis instead of just using a bland word like “weak.” Using this kind of word choice allowed for better interpretation of what was said by

The author, Ray Bradbury, chooses this quote for his book because its message corresponds with his beliefs. The statement is displaying how rules are almost controlling our lives, restricting us from making our own opinions. We must not pursue the path paved for us, but rather create our own. He says this is because we are afraid to make our voices heard and afraid that someone will get their feelings hurt. The above quote is an often heard line regarding an individual’s response to the demands of nature. It can be said that self-preservation and security outweigh the need to act independently and freely of the constraints of others. This is but one of the ways one can attempt to balance out the desire to act independently but also with the need for security. The idea of resolving these seemingly irreconcilable needs is brought up in Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, wherein he writes of two main characters who attempt to resolve their need for independence and security. The playwright utilizes character to suggest that in the attempt to reconcile independence and security, it is ultimately the need for self-preservation that takes immediate priority.…
