Reginald Rose has been a juror before, and he has used his experience to write a play in which he portrays the case of a murder of a boy’s father being put into the hands of people that do not take their responsibilities seriously. One of these characters includes the 7th juror. The author’s use of idiom suggests that in a democracy, there are often citizens that don’t take their role in a democracy seriously. When the writer states, “He’s a bull, this kid. Shoooom. A real jug handle”, (Rose, 2-5)., Rose is conveying his perspective through the 7th juror. The juror’s lack of interest in the case illustrates that there are people in a democracy that have a serious and important role but do not care, and only slack off. Holbrook has a similar…

In the story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” written by Flannery O 'Connor, the grandmother is the central character who grows and changes with the story develops, she is a round and dynamic character. At first, she seems to be an unpleasant, contemptible and selfish old lady who is skeptical about her religion. But in the end, when “her head cleared for an instant,” the grandmother becomes a real believer of God. And she is heading straight to heaven for her final Christ-like act of love the moment before she dies. That is, she moves from spiritual blindness to grace. And that is the method that the author uses to relate her to the theme of the story.…

An etic perspective is an outsider's perspective, so you should not describe your own culture in the first person or draw upon your own personal experiences. Your textbook describes an etic perspective in this way, “etic models invariably describe each culture in ways that seem alien to its own participants but that facilitate comparisons between cultures and the discovery of universal principles in the structure and functioning of cultures” (Crapo, 2013, p.27). See the assignment description for your Final Research Paper for more on using reputable sources to support your points.…

Often at first glance, identical twins usually appear to be exactly the same, and to the eyes, they may be the same; however, as one gets to know them, it is often discovered how different their individual personalities can be in spite of their obvious similarities. They exhibit proof of both twinship and oppositeness in different aspects of their lives. In A Tale of Two Cities, many twins and opposites appear under scrutiny in an array of different situations. In Charles Dickens’s novel A Tale of Two Cities, the central theme of doubling is demonstrated from beginning to end.…

Emotion regulation is a process whereby an individual internally regulates his or her emotions and externally modifies the way those emotions are outwardly expressed (Arens, Balkir & Barnow, 2013; Matsumoto & Juang, 2008). A common type of emotion regulation which is employed cross-culturally is emotion suppression. Emotion suppression is a form of emotion regulation in which the outward expression of emotion is inhibited during a period of emotional arousal (Gross & Levenson, 1993). Emotion suppression occurs in a diverse range of social situations and during instances of both positive and negative affect. However, and it is the types of social situations and the types of positive and negative affect under which individuals employ emotion suppression which differ most across cultures. For example, Miyamoto and Ma (2011) find evidence that European Americans, in comparison to Japanese individuals, utilize emotion suppression during both different social settings and while experiencing different types of emotions. Similarly, Haga, Kraft, and Corby (2007) found that European Americans, in comparison to Australians and Norwegians, utilize emotion suppression more when experiencing negative emotions and had a higher likelihood of long-term negative emotional impact as a result. Although a cross-cultural difference in the outward expression of emotions may imply different degrees of emotional experience, there is evidence that the physiological experience of emotion between individuals of different cultures does not differ significantly (Roberts, Levenson & Gross, 2008). Due to the similar physiological experience among individuals experiencing emotions, the impact of suppressing emotions has been shown to have both significant and lasting negative consequences (Miyamoto & Ma, 2011).…
