Working Full-Time: Detrimental or beneficial to a College student’s academic career? Imagine yourself as a beginning college freshman. The ideas that have always been roaming around your head are finally coming true. The independence, your own schedule, your own time. Your parents will finally see that you are a mature adult. However, with these same thoughts did you imagine that being an adult meant paying for everything on your own? 80% of all college students are employed while completing their undergraduate education (Riggert). Out of those 80% approximately 22% are working 20-34 hours per week. (Smith). Reading such information made me wonder if working full-time jobs would be detrimental or beneficial to a college student’s academic career.
