In my report I am going to demonstrate my understanding of two job roles and how they differ from each other. The first career I would certainly consider doing, the other I am sure I don’t want to do, both careers fall into two sectors both statutory and independent (private). I have chosen to research nursing for the mentally disabled because it is something that I would really contemplate doing as my life long career as I would love to work along with the less fortunate people. The second job I have chosen to look into is key stage one primary school teaching, I chose this because I don’t particularly think that I would like to do it, but I would enjoy to know more about it before ruling this profession out.
Sector
There are three sectors:
Statutory- the statutory sector includes organisations that are set up by acts of parliament and/or statutes and that are administered by the government (Department of Health & Department of Children, Schools and Families). Anything that falls into the statutory sector means they have a legal duty to provide the services that they do (such as a school). Funding for services within the statutory sector comes from various forms of taxation (income tax, national insurance and council tax). Services are run by NHS Trusts and local authorities, they employ doctors, nurses, social workers, care workers, teachers etc.
Independent (private)- the private sector are independent companies that operate separately from government organisations. These companies are profit making providers and include businesses such as private hospitals, nurseries and some schools. Funding comes directly from those who are using the service; providers make a profit by charging clients more than the full cost of their treatment/service.
Voluntary- the voluntary section include housing associations. They receive help from unpaid volunteers but they also have some paid employees. Funding comes from charity events, fees,
