Working With Animals Personal Statement
Ever since I was a child, I have always adored the idea of working with animals when I grew up. I can remember telling my friends and family that one day I would own the most amazing zoo they could imagine, and people would visit from all over the world. Back then; I had no idea what it would take to reach that kind of level, however now my dreams and aspirations seem much less unrealistic and more a goal that I can see myself achieving through hard work and determination. My admiration towards animals lead to consistently pleading my parents to buy me a pet, and I remember them buying me my first pet; two goldfish for me and my sister. Since then, I have had the responsibility of looking after many family pets such which has only made my passion and fascination …show more content…
The course itself gave me a huge amount of insight into the way different animals live. The course involved learning about animal diets, habitats, behaviour and mating. It gave me the opportunity to be taught how to care for a large variety of animals, and also the opportunity to handle animals such as: (NAME AN ANIMAL YOU HANDLED). The course was extremely beneficial to me as not only did it further my adoration towards animals, but it also helped to increased my knowledge on different organisms making my dream of working with animals within my reach. As well as the course at Morton Morrell, I completed a week of work experience within a Dog Kennel in 2013.
I have always been a firm believer of working hard to achieve my goals, and this mind-set has stayed with me throughout my life, meaning I have always worked to the best of my ability in everything I do. I believe my hard work and admiration towards animals show how ambitious I am as a person, and my dedication towards pursuing a career in zoology and I think my qualities and experience in the past will make me a valuable

Throughout the open house I was tremendously excited to be in attendance. While there, my father and I had the opportunity to meet the head leader for Animal Science. Her name was Ms. Kishaa James and she was one of the sweetest lady that I had met. She informed me of a program called the research apprentice program, RAP for short. I learned that the program was for rising juniors and seniors who were interested in anything to do with agriculture. The program would take place on the campus of North Carolina A& T in Greensboro for four weeks. After I learned everything about the program; and I was aware of the requirements, I decided to get a head start.…

The education I would require in order to become a veterinary technician would be six years in total, two years to get my associate’s degree and enroll in a four-year bachelor’s degree program for animal science or pre-veterinary studies. Practical experience in a vet hospital is often part of the curriculum in a associate’s degree program. An externship can also be finished while a student is on their last semester of an associate’s degree program or during the summer. Externs assist vets by taking blood samples, weighing the patient, and sterilizing surgical tools. PIMA Community College, Mesa College, Miami Dade College, Hillsborough Community College, St. George’s University, Michigan State University, and Purdue University all offer the proper training. The skills that are required for this occupation are technical skills (x-rays, cleaning equipment and enter data into computers using spreadsheet programs), physical stamina, detail oriented, empathy and communication. You can gain experience through programs, volunteering at an animal clinic or hospital, shelter, etc. I am very creative, positive, patient, meticulous, caring, understanding, and I love all animals. In San Diego, California the annual salary for veterinary technicians is $32,000. The wage I would expect after years of experience would be $14.50, hourly pay. A veterinary technician associate’s degree costs up to $1,300 for in-state tuition, and a bachelor’s degree typically costs up to $60,000. Benefits for veterinary technicians include health and dental insurance, 2-4 weeks of paid vacation, paid sick leave, opportunities to travel (seminars, networking, etc) and most apply you with retirement. A day in the life of a veterinary technician is getting to work closely with the…

My goal is to simply be happy in my chosen career. I believe my calling is to be a large animal veterinarian. By majoring in animal science, I am bettering myself to prepare for graduate school. Classes like biology, chemistry, and animal nutrition are vital to a DVM (Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine). Although I am still a second-year college student, I feel that I have already had so much experience working with livestock. In my college career so far I have had to take care of a calf, help with birthing of lambs and kids, and gave shots and trimmed hooves on sheep. Veterinary medicine is an animal-oriented profession, and therefore both animal experience and veterinary experience are essential components of the vet school application. After…

Ever since I was capable of speaking full sentences, like many children, I was always asked what I wanted to be when I was older; a questions which I happened to favor. Without hesitation I would reply by proudly stating that I wanted to be a veteran, with the intentions of saying that I wanted to be a veterinarian. My main concern has always been helping others, people and animals alike. Of course, animals were always easier to “save” being 10 years old, so I attempted to save house pets, corner store cats, and pigeons through the course of my pre-teen years. As I grew older, my dreams aligned closer to helping people, specifically children and mothers, for various reasons.…
