Workplace Ethics and Expectations BUS2750

Week 7 Assignment

In what situations is it easy to be in non-listening mode? When there are gossiping among other coworkers. What can an individual do to improve his or her listening skills in such a situation?

When is it appropriate to send a handwritten message? Feeling and showing gratitude in a thoughtful and deliberate way will lead to more good things in your life, and more reasons to be thankful. When you sit down to write a note on pretty stationery that reflects your style, you honor and celebrate the good that has come into your life, and lay the groundwork for more to come your way. When the note is received, your thoughtfulness and appreciation will brighten their day, and probably inspire them to continue to do give in the way that made you grateful in the first place. And, to whom?

Write a letter of reprimand for an employee who behaved inappropriately.

Ethical issues are going to arise no matter how much of a handle an employer thinks that they have on things. As the CEO of Wal-Mart I would want to be forward thinking and implement certain policies that would hopefully leave us well-prepared for any potential conflicts that were to arise. Handling ethical workplace issues requires a cautious approach to matters which could lead to lawsuits or be publicly damaging. The first thing I would do would be to incorporate a policy where all employees from executive management to housekeeping are held accountable for their actions. Employees would need to know what standards that they are going to be held to and provided a handbook that outlines all these expectations. Secondly I would develop…

Ethics--"the science of conduct," according to some philosophers--is differentiating between right and wrong and then doing the right thing. Ethical problems in the workplace can include questions of pay raises and promotions, employee discrimination, disciplinary action, harassment, conflicts of interest and other issues (Workplace Ethical Dilemmas | eHow.com). I have had the misfortune to have been apart of ethical dilemmas in the workplace but there is one specific situation involving sexual harassment that to this day still gets me crazy. Before I begin, I want to share Arizona’s definition of harassment - conduct that is directed at a specific person and that would cause a reasonable person to be seriously alarmed, annoyed or harassed and the conduct in fact seriously alarms, annoys or harasses the person (Arizona State Legislature). The dilemma will be broken down into three critical segments – in the first segment I will share the essential points of the story as I understand them; secondly, I will share how the dilemma intersected with my personal values and last I will share how I would have solved the dilemma and why. I’ve changed the names for anonymity.…
