Good morning ladies and gentlemen. I am here today to encourage my peers and to also challenge my peers. The message I have focused on today is critical for the future is standing up for what is right. The future of humanity depends on our ability to speak and stand up for what we believe in and our values. We must use the youth to help this work and make this society a much more supportive and understanding society to live in. Today, I will discuss three texts that deal with the issue “Standing up for what is right”. These texts are: “WorldShaker” written by Richard Harland, Bob Marley’s song “Get Up, Stand Up” and the song “Caught in the Crowd” written by Kate Miller-Heidke. They will be broken down into detail.…
The music he created spread across many genres. From the introspective psychedelic ballad of ‘Visions’ of ‘Innervisions’ to the archetypical pop song ‘Isn’t she Lovely’. He delved into funk with ‘Higher Ground’ being one example. ‘Pastime Paradise’ is an example of one of his songs that crossed many genres, with its orchestral and choral backing and rhythmical percussion elements of an Afro-Cuban nature, combined with his lyrics and melody typical of a slower ballad.…

Written to atone for ghastly works, the song he played ranked as a favorite. He enjoyed playing that song, as he did it seemingly for the birds, because of the intricate diapason after the culmination of it.…
In 1979, The Knack performed one of their hit singles “My Sharona” in front of a packed house. This song represented the alternative/pop rock genre, and was considered a major hit in the late 1970s. As a child, I remember hearing the song on the radio and I enjoyed the catchy and memorable tune. Although I did not quite understand the lyrics at the time, my dad listened to it often when he worked in the garage. This essay will first describe a variety of important musical characteristics that are displayed within the performance. Next, it will discuss how this song was a launchpad for a future song that became just as popular a few years later. Lastly, before providing my own personal critique, I will discuss how the song assisted The Knack with getting back together nearly 20…
The lyrics that stand out the most to me are “Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery; None but ourselves can free our minds. Have no fear for atomic energy, 'Cause none of them can stop the time”, because it shows a large amount of emotion.…
“I open my mouth to breath, to scream, and his hand covers it. In my head my voice is as clear as a bell: “NO I DON’T WANT TO!” But I can’t spit it out. I’m trying to remember how we got on the ground and where the moon went and wham! Shirt up, shorts down, and the ground smells wet and dark and NO!…
Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down, and I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, I’ll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-air. These are the opening lines to the intro song of the television comedy “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, that me and every 90’s kids with a TV has had memorized since the day we first heard it. Even as you read that first sentence, you can’t help but to rap the words, and hum the tune as you envision a young Will Smith spinning on his royal chair with the graffiti background. The effect of the lyrics and the music video to this intro song goes way beyond pure entertainment value. The music video and lyrics spread happiness, smiles, and even helped to usher in a new generation of kids with the carefree fresh prince mindset.…
The EZLN is a movement that began in an effort to protect the rights of the indigenous people of Chiapas. This grew into a fight against globalization. The EZLN could not have stated it better, they are fighting for “a world in which many worlds fit”. The EZLN are fighting for the forgotten, the underrepresented and exploited. They do not limit their struggle to the indigenous people of Chiapas. They are not blinded to the struggles that people from other states and places are facing. The EZLN does not claim to have an answer. They are willing to acknowledge that nothing is certain. The only thing that is certain is that the current government is not serving the needs of the people. The EZLN is not individualistic. They fight against exploitation on every level and on behalf of everyone. The Fire and the Word by Gloria Munoz Ramirez retells the EZLN struggle from the day the first founders retreated into the jungle to twenty years after.…
The author lists the names of songs that he thinks are great and gives an example of why they are great. He again uses the technique of having a quote from a famous person. Using these testimonies is a great way to present his argument and to get his point across. By using these testimonies, it makes the reader and audience think that if a famous person thinks he is great, then he must be great. Especially quotes from other well known musicians and talented…
And been learnin' to be the type of person. To display how determined I get when I'm certain. Inside I feel that fire that's burnin'. Like a knife that is turnin', I fight while I'm hurtin'. Sometimes they're right 'cause life is a burden. Like the pain from a bite that'll worsen. Tryna stifle the light that'll shine on me first and. Before I ride in a hearse and. My breathing stops and. You'll never take my one shot I got 'fore I lie in the earth. And now I kill again on that Hamilton Hercules Mulligan. Readin' in Vanity Fair or the Huffington. Done with the sufferin', we in the guts again, family rushin' in. Wonder where Busta been. Feelin' the hunger and feedin' the lust to win. See I've been patiently waitin' for this moment. To rise up again, that's the way I was molded. And as the last one standin' as the rest of them foldin'. Give me my one chance to grab the torch and properly hold…
