World Poverty By Wayne Grudem Summary

This short book, by Wayne Grudem does not go into depth however conveys the ideas presented perfectly. Grudem states that he wanted to and is still in the process of writing another more detailed book. Grudem sets the book up into eleven chapters with their own subject and defines them. These chapters include: Ownership, Productivity, Employment, Commercial transactions (buying and selling), Profit, Money, Inequality of possessions, Competition, Borrowing and lending, Attitudes of heart, and lastly Effect on world poverty. The main focus that Grudem is attempting to convey in this book is this question, “IS BUSINESS BASICALLY good or evil?” The author went through the process of asking that question in every chapter. The secondary focus of this book is to convey, that Godly business practices is a way to glorify God. Stating that a person can be both a good Christian as well as a good businessman.
Grudem posses many thoughts and concerns throughout his book, we will seek to better understand those thoughts by looking at particular chapters. To determine

However where he contradicts himself is when he then states, “But I think another large reason business activity has not yet solved world poverty is negative attitudes toward business in the world community. And these negative attitudes also lead to and aggravate those other problems that I just mentioned.” The reason I don’t believe Grudem spent enough time on this chapter, is because although some Christians are in business the majority aren’t. I believe Grudem should have spent more time explaining what exactly is needed to help stop world
