General Information on World Vision Korea
History, Mission Statement and Characteristics World Vision is a relief and development organization that was established in 1950 in South Korea by Pastor Bob Pierce to help the war orphans and widows. It is now helping over 100 million people in over 100 countries. I am proud to say that although Korea started off as a receiver of relief, it became an aiding country from1991. World Vision is responsible for eliminating leprosy in Korea and is currently running a total of 78 facilities in Korea alone. Although all the international offices act separately, they are tied by a common mission statement. It states that 2‘World Vision is an international partnership of Christians whose mission is to follow our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in working with the poor and oppressed to promote human transformation, seek justice and bear witness to the good news of the Kingdom of God.’ It is explicit from the mission statement that World Vision is a Christian organization. However, evangelism is not part of World Vision’s projects. They do not introduce themselves as a Christian organization when they enter a country nor do they send out missionaries, although they are partners with many missionary-sending organizations.
