Before I make my next statement, let me remind the court that Hitler came to power in Germany legally and through the system set in place by the Treaty of Versailles.
I believe that without the Treaty of Versailles, the nationalists of Germany would not have been nearly as angry as they were with the Treaty’s ludicrous rules being set in place. Hitler came to power because people did not want to take blame for a war they didn’t start. He came to power because he made promises to the German people, telling them that he would make Germany the powerful empire it once had been if not greater. People were upset with the treaty and due that strong emotion, they were willing to do anything to bring back the pride that was once held in Germany.
The Treaty was an unnecessary evil. The treaty placed all blame of the war on Germany because Europe was terrified. Germany had been growing rapidly before the first world war and countries surrounding it were terrified that they would eventually been under German control. The Treaty was supposed to be a lead brick to weigh Germany down, to keep them from growing, but rather instead of weighing them down, it fueled the passion for German nationalists.
