The charity Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is a house hold name it seems these days. Everyone has heard of the charity, specifically after the 9/11 attacks which ignited a war in Afghanistan and Iraq in 2001. The purpose of the Wounded Warrior Project is stated on their website and quoted below:
• To raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members.
• To help injured service members aid and assist each other.
• To provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.
Their core values are based on “fun, integrity, loyalty, innovation and service”; they even have an acronym for their core values which is FILIS. They pride themselves on FILIS in which they claim that they have a “culture of teamwork, WWP staff work to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation's history.”
Unethical but oh so FILIS
CBS News covered the story in which two C-level officers of Wounded Warrior Project got fired due to their unethical behavior by permitting excessive spending. The C-level officers in question are Steven Nardizzi the CEO and …show more content…
The article states that when the board received the financial audit results, they automatically initiated conversation in regards to new members of leadership. Nardizzi and Giordoano were terminated on Thursday when data indicated that there was irregularities and excessive spending of the Charities Funds. The charity was not spending their money for reasons that their foundation was built on, for example in 2014 nearly 300 million were received in donations, and only 60% of that money was spent on veterans.
