Write A Narrative Essay About Moving Away
I woke with a start, my alarm clock screaming at me to get up before the sun. I slid myself out of bed, groggily dodging the mountains of boxes precariously placed about my room. I truly believe that I was not ready for such a big move, or what it would do to me as a freshly graduated 6th grader. I avoided everyone on that too-early morning, not quite brave enough to say goodbye. I was feeling some odd mixture of excitement and distress because I was excited to see me mom again after 3 months, but was I really prepared to say goodbye to everything else? How long would it be until I saw my dad or brothers? My whole other half of my family? All these thoughts raced tirelessly in my head as I dressed, ate, and slowly came to my senses. The last of what my grandpa and I could fit in the tiny silver car had been crammed into every last crevice. I valiantly fought back tears as I hugged my dad and forced myself onto the tan leather seat of my grandpa’s Miata. I strapped myself in for what I didn’t realize would be the ride of a lifetime. Moving is just another part of my life, and if I hadn’t moved so much, I don’t think I would be the same person as I am today. I pride myself in being able to adapt quickly to any environment I am placed in. It has become second nature to me to make new friends and quickly catch up on my new surroundings. I have had the opportunity to express myself as purely myself, because I never had the time to see what everyone else was doing or how they were acting. Moving has provided me with a strong sense of self, and a determination to be true to who I am. I developed my own person without the help of others, and have grown to be more open-minded than I believe I would have been if I stayed in one spot for the last 17 years. Moving molded me for a life of experience, because the little glimpses I have had have inspired me to see as much of the world as I humanly

Moving away from family and friends was very tough when I was young. I learned that this world is full of opportunities and I just have to make decisions and go out to look for them. I also learned how to accommodate to a new life. This was an opportunity that changed my life as a person. It taught me how to take over and adjust throughout the time.…

Holding back the tears in my eyes as I waved my parents goodbye at the airport, I would then live with my grandparents for the next two years of my life. I don’t really remember much other than the stories my parents used to tell me. They felt really bad leaving me here for so long but our talks on the phone were always really cheerful and they were surprised on how fast I recovered from being sad and back to my normal curious self. Two years later In the spring of 2006, as usual, I was waiting for my grandparents to pick me up from preschool and my mom for the first time in two years.…

I entered into the new house, it was so empty. I could feel the weight in the air. The cold, frightening new air. I walked over to what is now my parents room, I rolled the sleeping bag onto the carpet, and slept on the floor. Something felt strange, I was sleeping on carpet. Never before had I fallen asleep on carpet. Always on hardwood floor. I recall falling asleep in sorrow, trying to grasp a little bit of hope out of myself. I tried to see the best in the situation, but all I could think about was the people I just left, all I could think about was the past. I couldn’t bring myself to the present. My mind and heart still in Ecuador, my cold body here. This was probably one of the worst moments of my life. I don’t think I have ever cried so much. I don’t think that I’ve ever felt so isolated. I didn’t know who I was. Everything that made me had the reset button pushed on it. All of my pride and courage felt lost. I felt so weak. I needed to become someone new.…

When I was seven years old and almost a half my parents told me that my family was going to pack up everything, leave our home, our livelihood, and move to Idaho. I was young but I knew I was going to miss Albuquerque. I was going to miss the plump quails who walked quickly with their babies toddling behind in a straight line and the skinny, all leg, roadrunners who would sprint across the roads. I was going to miss my little Crocodile Smile green room. I had chosen the paint color, I had watched my room be painted, and I had to leave it. Abandoning my home was hard too. The front of my seashell white house had two, big, high, arched windows. They had rusty yellow stains running down beneath them that made the house look like it was crying golden tears. Near the grand maroon oak front door were some slightly overgrown, prickly rose bushes. Everyday the roses blushed and smiled at me, turning their pink and yellow faces up. I was mortified to leave my crying house with the smiling roses. The day we left, I found out we were leaving. I had convinced myself that we weren’t going to leave, but then we did. I left my home, my friends, but mostly my memories. My memories included early morning balloon fiestas, during…

Moving to northern Wisconsin as a young girl was a scary and confusing time. Having been born in Chicago, all I knew was a big city, the crowds of people, the nonstop traffic and all the noises. My home, it was the only place I knew. How could my parents make a decision like this? How could they make me move to a place I had only visited once before -- but barely remembered? The sadness I felt was so overwhelming during that transition that I told myself that if I ever had a family, I would never make them move. As an adult, many years later, I look back and almost chuckle. My family and I have moved many times, for work or family and even adventure. Now as an adult, I push my children to find adventure in every move…

In the beginning of 2005, my family decided to move away from California. My dad was offered a job in Phoenix, Arizona for Casino Arizona’s Black Jack dealer. When I heard the news that we were moving, I was upset, angry, furious, vexed. We just started our lives here and my dad wanted to pack everything up and leave. I was four at the time and I had started preschool, making new friends and now I have to leave all of that to move to Arizona. I didn’t know what to expect life in Arizona would be like. I was not happy. I cried for days because California is my home, this apartment was my home. Then I remembered, my family is my home. There was a bright side to moving to Arizona. I could finally get out of the cold weather. Every time I went outside, my jacket…

Everything was loud. The overstuffed bus of children was leaving the school parking lot for its normal route of sudden stops, unforgiving bumps, and of course, transporting students to their destinations. Opposite from every other child on the bus, I sit quietly in seat fourteen listening to the screaming laughter and shrill excitement of the conclusion of another school year. I sit there in silence because I knew that it would be my last bus ride home. I was trying to take everything in: the smell of the old brown bus seats, the half opened windows that tried to keep us cool, the pleasantly plump and incredibly sweet bus driver, and the jovial and rambunctious sounds of kids cackling and yelping. At every stop, I could literally feel my heart drop a little. As the bus neared my neighborhood, my mouth was completely dry. When I saw my house, my heart stopped. There was the moving truck. It was symbol of my leaving home, and the realization that the move was going to happen, and that I had no control over it.…

    Texas Turning Point

Most students grow up with the same friends and same house all the way until high school graduation. Growing up in a family that moves quite a bit, these friendships and houses often change. I have moved numerous times and have attended a number of schools throughout my life, but my recent move has affected me the most. Originally living in Texas from the time I was six months old, I moved to Peoria, Arizona, when I was nine years old. However, just before my sophomore year in high school, my family and I moved back to Texas from Arizona. This move was a major turning point in my life because I had to adapt to a new area and school where I had to make all new friends.…

The memory of my first big move is still fresh in my mind. I remember rushing to school, excited to tell my friends the news: I was moving from New Jersey to Phoenix, Arizona! After I brought my friends up to date, I proudly displayed my new disposable camera. Together we took many pictures, some of them meaningful and some comical. There were pictures of myself smiling and giggling with my friends and some of my teacher’s feet. As the moving date was slowly approaching, I began to feel resentment. I started hating the idea of moving to a new unknown place where I would have no friends. As it turned out, making new friends was not as hard as I thought because I was younger and I chose my friends superficially. However, I did have to learn to adapt to a new school and curriculum. I was not…

We had to say our last goodbye to our little house we had lived in our whole lives. When we were leaving, my family and relatives were at the house saying their goodbyes and giving hugs. “Do we really have to leave everyone and move, mom?” I asked. “Your dad and I have agreed that it will be a good move for the family, now stop complaining about it.” she told me. The only thing I wanted to do that day was stay in our old house and cry because I didn’t want to leave my family at all, I was really dreading moving to Florida. When we headed off on the roads I was still upset about the move, but my parents kept telling me it will be okay but that didn’t help me feel any…

One day after school when I was eight, my parents conveyed to our family that we were moving due to my father’s job. I found this bizarre since we had just moved to our massive house in Fort Wayne, IN about two years earlier. I questioned where we were moving to, and my mother told us we were moving to Texas. This time we were moving across several states rather than just a few towns away. Up to that point in lives, we had lived in Indiana, so moving to Texas seemed so far away and across the country.…
