This writing sample fulfills the first writing assignment in the course.
Instructions:
According to The Little Seagull Handbook, “A descriptive writing provides specific details to show what something looks like—and perhaps how it sounds, feels, smells, and tastes” (Bullock, Brody, and Weinberg 23). Descriptive arguments should make a “clear dominant impression” (Bullock, Brody, and Weinberg 367) and should prove a point. To the best of what you know about college-level writing, write an essay about one of the following:
• Describe the best season of the year
• Describe the best town to visit (or live)
• Describe an ideal holiday
Your goal is to write 400 words or more. After you complete the writing, enter your word count at the top of the page in the blank provided.
A basic essay has a title, intro, body, and close.
Underline the thesis (main point) in the intro.
If you are handwriting, double-space (skip a line between lines) and write on the front of page only. Staple this sheet to the top of your essay and place any optional planning at the bottom after the essay.
If you are typing in a lab or mobile lab setting, double space the document. If you print the sample, staple this page to the top and include any optional planning on the bottom after the essay.
If you are typing in a lab or mobile lab setting, your instructor may ask you to submit your document to a dropbox. The instructor will give you further details on how to upload your document.
