Option 1: Strategies for Becoming an Effective Writer

1. Consider how the writing process you read about in this class differs from the process you have used in the past. What specifically have you done in the past compared to what you have read about this week?

For me the writing process for this class constitutes the steps needed for writing by giving careful thought to the quality of the descriptive essay in order to determine between facts and or opinions. You have to learn how to build a strategy when choosing and narrowing an approved essay topic for class assignments by using proper grammar, punctuation and spelling appropriately as well as learning how to become more capable at academic writing as such as learning how to break down essays with better descriptive qualities to capture the reader’s attention.
Prior to taking this class my writing pretty much consisted of placing my thoughts down in a more drawn out and incomplete picture of what I initially was trying to convey to the readers, not really paying a lot of attention to the proper placement of verbs, pronouns, irregular verbs as well as narrowing the topic in which I was writing about.

2. Which step in the writing process is easiest for you to complete? Why is it easier?

The easiest part of writing in this course would be the fact that once I choose a topic it becomes really easy to write on the topic and the University of Phoenix online resource center offers many links to help with writing skills and what to look for in a topic of choice as well as how to format the essay per the APA standards with University of Phoenix, you can also use the online library for specific references for your essay as well. Your instructor is available to answer any of your questions or concerns regarding any writing issues you come up against or may offer links you can refer to in order to help complete your essay.

In the image "Going to the Olympics," by Frank Romero, he used specific images to symbolize the city of Los Angeles. In the top of the painting we can observe a couple of men fighting and a horse. The two men fighting might represent the effort that the city has made to get where they are at this point, while the horse might represent the power that the people have when they're together. It also shows five cars, each with a heart above, which might mean all the missions in California and how lovely the people of California is.…

My writing process all depends on what I am writing. Some writings I can sit down and write the whole things and be done with it, while others can take me multiple days or even weeks. I normally sit down and work on it until I finish, get tired of it, or a hit a roadblock. I try to stop when I feel like I am writing the same thing over and over or if I feel like I just need a break. Most of the time, if I feel like I am writing and it is really bad, it is because it is and I need to take a break and come back to it later. Working on it in pieces normally works well for me, to break it up and take it a little bit at a time. I normally struggle when I do not like what I am writing about or when I run out of information to put in my writing. I…

The key topic I have learned that plays a huge role in the writing process is confidence. When writers are confident about their piece and they really love the way it has turned out, then it shows through the entire paper. I always tell my dance students that if they show the audience how much they love dancing, then more people will want to watch them. And I think the same goes for…

    Marine Corps Counseling

As Marines we have many traditions that we continue to pass on through the ranks. They define who we are as an organization and they set us apart from the other branches. One of the biggest traditions we have trouble continuing is formally counseling our Marines’ on the negative or positive things that they do even though there is a Marine Corps Order (MCO) that tells us how and when to conduct counseling’s. I feel that this is one of the traditions that should be practiced more within my unit. To promote continuous counseling of Marines I would hold professional military education (PME) classes, ensure that all counseling’s are being conducted with the guidance of MCO 1610.12, and to hold practical application events with the Marines in my…
