Written Task 1
http://www.dnaindia.com/analysis/standpoint-gender-stereotyping-in-indian-recruitment-advertising-1994209

Rationale:
For my written task 1 I have decided to write an opinion column based on the topic “Gender Inequality” to the public and the readers with the writing style of the author. I chose to write an opinion column from an article which talks about how woman are showed unimportant compared to men in advertisements. I chose to write on this topic because I feel that gender inequality is a major issue in the India. I have come across many situations where woman are treated very insignificant compared to men and I thought that writing about such an issue is a good thing. My main audience would be the public, especially targeted to women. I also feel that this topic ties with the “language and social relations” topic that we have covered in class. This column would explain how woman are seen as soft people and are considered to do very disciplined careers as woman in advertisements are always shown as cooks, nurses, doctors or teachers and men in a more complex path. This creates a gender stereotype in the economy for job recruitment. I think the learning outcomes from writing this column are good as well as it ‘demonstrates an awareness of how language and meaning are shaped with culture and context’. Like for example how gender inequality causes people to express language shaped in a different way because of the reasons of gender stereotype.

Gender stereotype has become a main issue in India especially shown publically through advertisements. Generally all the advertisements include woman in a very disciplined field like being a cook, nurse, doctor or even a teacher and men in more ‘complex’ and multiple fields like being an astronaut or pilot anything else and by doing this they try to raise profits for their company. It’s unfair how woman are seen as people who have to do their work from a very small sector and are seen to do work which is more related

Based on the information provided by Power Tool Company it is recommended that the company consider using a Keirtetsu Network as there supply chain strategy. While there are other supply chain strategies available the Keiretsu Network provides many of the desired components which will allow Power Tool Company A to achieve there desired goals while utilizing there current resources. Joint Ventures are not recommended for Power Tool Company because although companies can benefit from shared resources there is a risk that this type of partnership can dilute a company brand or unintentionally cause a company to lose its market share or competitive advantage to its partner. Virtual companies are another strategy but is not recommended for Power Tool Company. The reason this option is not recommended is because with Virtual Companies a large amount of suppliers is used. Although this method may be cost effective having fewer suppliers like within a Keiretsu strategy makes suppliers more reliable and allows for longer more stable business relationships.…

Andy saw Bilal standing at a bus stop as he drove past. Andy immediately stopped his car and, in an aggressive manner, ran over to Bilal shouting racist abuse and accusing him (falsely) of being involved in the kidnapping of a child. Andy then punched Bilal, knocking him to the ground. Andy then hit Bilal repeatedly with a rubbish bin which Andy ripped from the bus stop. Bilal’s injuries included a fractured cheekbone and jaw, and severe cuts to his face from which he lost a lot of blood. Bilal needed major surgery to rebuild his face.…

While evaluating Company Q’s attitude toward social responsibility it seems they made some decisions based on the severe lack of revenue over a period time, which motivated them to close a couple of stores. Those stores, which were located in a major metropolitan area, were also characterized as high-crime areas. By closing those stores, it no doubt had a negative economic impact both directly and indirectly on the people in those store locations. For the now unemployed people they will have to look for another source of income and benefits. The community members that relied on those stores for groceries, will now have to travel to another store possibly at a longer distance and will have to commit more time and money.…

Over the centuries there have been many different environmental and geographical factors that have shaped the development of the United States. Two of these factors that I feel are extremely significant to this development are the Irish Potato Famine and the discovery of gold in California. The Irish Potato Famine began in Ireland in September 1845. The famine was caused by an airborne fungus, phytophthora infetans, which attacks the leaves of the plant, turning them black, causing them to curl and rot, ultimately killing the plant. The rotting plant makes the perfect environment for the fungus to multiply. The wind then carries the fungus spores to more healthy plants. (Irish Potato Famine, 2000) This famine caused such dire conditions for the families. The main source of food and income withered away before their eyes. Since families could not make ends meet, half-a-million people were evicted from their homes. The landlords used a method of getting rid of their poor tenants by promising them food, money and prosperity in America. The families left with nowhere to go fell for the empty promises and migrated to America. The famine caused around 650,000 Irish emigrants to come to America in huge waves. 52,000 arrived in New York City in 1847 alone. (Irish Potato Famine, 2000) The California Gold Rush began in January 1848, when gold was discovered in the American River near present day Sacramento by James Marshall. News of this discovery traveled to New York City. In August 1848 the New York Herald announced the discovery, kicking off the migration west with dreams of striking in rich in California. By December 1949, San Francisco’s population jumped to 100,000. Prior to the Gold Rush, California’s population was 25,000, but by 1852 the total population was 223,856. This population growth ensured California’s incorporation into the United States of America as the 31st state and the first western state. As a result,…
