Xbox Division head Phil Spencer has made it pretty clear that consumers should expect the Xbox Scorpio to have a “higher price.” This prompted analyst Michael Pachter to comment that it would be a “suicide” for Microsoft to release Project Scorpio for more than $399. Not to let the “beast” of a console’s name be tainted ahead of its release, Spencer reveals the reason why the forthcoming console will require a hefty sum.
The main reason why the Xbox Scorpio is going to be more costly than the Xbox One S is that the console is targeted towards high-end consumers. It will cost more than S, obviously, that's how we are building it," Spencer stated of the Xbox Scorpio, via Gamepur. "We have not announced the pricing yet, but I want to make sure that the investment we are putting into the product of Scorpio meets the demands of the higher-end consumer and that will be a higher price."
The Xbox Scorpio was announced at the E3 2O16 briefing, along with the news of its release in 2017.
