job referrals, and job application assistance.
For interviewing skills Y.E.S provides the clients with a pamphlet of what they can expect for a job interview. This pamphlet contains information on what to wear for a job interview, what to take and what not to take, and the kind of questions that are commonly asked by interviewers. The clients are also given an opportunity to practice and experience an interview through a mock interview provided in the office of Y.E.S. If the client chooses to start or work on their resume, the Y.E.S assists the client on resume building. Y.E.S provides their clients with a guide for resume building, where it contains information for clients to start or improve their resume. Now a day, there are different ways to apply for a job, and Y.E.S assist their clients by giving them information on how to fill out a job application as well as assist them to fill it out, whether one has to fill out an …show more content…
application by hand or on-line. The Y.E.S office has computers available for the clients to work with; to look for company information, learn and practice computer skills, as well as to apply on-line. Most importantly Y.E.S created a job board for their clients that inform the clients of different employers with different job opportunities that are hiring. The job board is updated every other month to provide the clients with accurate information. Many clients of Y.E.S are searching for jobs for their very first time and that is the reason why Y.E.S likes to go through all the steps with the clients. Being aware of the clients’ age and situation is very important. Y.E.S has to be sensitive and know if the clients are aware of or have knowledge of the services that they provide. If the client is not aware of the services and their meaning the person working for Y.E.S is responsible to explain to the best of their ability and in detail what the services are, this is done in order for the clients to be able to understand. Y.E.S provides their services to young adults that are in the ages of 14-22.
Per month Y.E.S provides their services to around 50 to 70 youths. In January of 2008, 69 youths were served by Y.E.S and 42 of those youths served applied to Y.E.S for the first time (Youth Employment Services January 2008 Statistics). Y.E.S opens their doors to anyone who comes in through their doors, no matter of their gender, ethnicity, or economic status. From the Y.E.S January 2008 statistics out of the 42 new applicants for the Y.E.S 26 youths were male and 16 were female; ethnicity was 64% Mexican, 21% other/ Hispanic Latino, 7% White, 7% Asian American, and 2% other Non Hispanic Latino; the economic status of these youths range 38% were low income, 33% moderate income, 12% extremely low income, and 10% other
income. At the moment, YWCA Youth Employment Services only has one person who is in charge of the Y.E.S office. This person is the Y.E.S Program Director named Valerie. Valerie has a lot of responsibility on her plate. Valerie is responsible to make appointment, advertise Y.E.S, answer phones, meet with clients, provide statistics, follow up with clients, follow up and update employer information, attend meetings and outreach programs, and networking. The YWCA Youth Employment Services is non-profit organization that gets its funds in different ways. These funds come in from donations, fees and support, club and organizational donation, non-government grants, foundation grants, misc. grants, and government grants For the most part, the services that the agency provides is very helpful for those youths that come in to Y.E.S. YWCA Youth Employment Services has information that is extremely helpful to the clients and one does see the confidence growing in the clients. The weakness that the agency has would be organization. There is only one person in the office of Y.E.S which automatically puts a lot of responsibility on the person’s plate. It is very important for this person to be able to multi task but it is more important to be very organized in order for one to know where they are at. If one is not organized one could forget an important meeting. To improve the organization of Y.E.S one can start labeling and writing down the priorities and working from there on. If one wishes to work with young adults that range from ages 14 to 22 YWCA Youth Employment Services is the perfect place to intern. Interning at the office will allow an intern to learn and experience the form one has to make to be able to communicate with the clients. As one continues their internship and communicates with the young adult clients, one starts to feel more confident while talking to the youth. As an intern one will have the opportunity to help a lot of clients in the YWCA Y.E.S. It is such a wonderful feeling when the clients who you provided service for thank you. YWCA Youth Employment Services is a very wonderful program who would be worth interning in. Not only does an intern get a chance to communicate with the clients but one has the opportunity to experience net working and other functions. If one is looking forward to working with young adults, YWCA Youth Employment Services should certainly be a good choice to the intern.
