Yair Ramirez
Introduction For this case study, I decided to observe my boyfriends’ six-year-old brother named Yair Ramirez. He has a light skin tone and brown thin and choppy hair. His eyes are brown, and he recently lost four teeth. Yair lives in a two-story town home with two bedrooms along with his two siblings and both parents, Blanca Singu and Carlos Ramirez. His mother described their home as “simple but fun. He has a lot of toys to entertain himself with.” At school, his mother says it is very interactive and he learns a lot from the activities held. The reason I chose to write my case study based on Yair is because I see him about once a week, and I have a close relationship with the family overall.

He is competitive and playful with friends/peers, courteous with relatives, and with his family he is “stuck up” and aggressive with his siblings. His brother stated that he used to get bullied in school. Yair is said to be “straight up” about how he feels or problems arising. Blanca says he is generally happy, secure, and would say stressed. “He is never still. He always wants to be do something.” For example, he always includes everyone in the room to participate in something. When we were playing a board game and he saw someone sitting out on their phone, he pulled them over to where everyone was having fun. When he does not get what he wants he throws a tantrum. “Since he is spoiled by everyone, he always gets what he wants,” says his older …show more content…
Since he went to a head start school, he is advanced in his cognitive skills. His mom mentioned that he was in a swim team so, that would help him become more fit. He is really attached to his mom, but overall outgoing with other people. Regarding his family and home factors, he is bound to make new friends when they relocate to another house/school. In my opinion, he is growing up to be physically healthy and is willing to get whatever he wants whenever he wants it. They are doing a good job with practicing his homework with him such as reading and writing. His family should encourage him to participate in sports as he gets older since he seems to have an interest in them. Another thing I would suggest is inviting some of his friends for play time. This could help him develop long term

She seems to be very confident with and without her mother in her sight. Harper’s father is not actively involved in her life because he lives in another state.…

The child that the writer chose for this child observation assignment is 11 month-old infant boy, which seems to be a normal energetic infant. The 11 month-old infant’s parents are of white pigmentation. Mother and father are married, however, father is non-American. The 11 month-old infant lives in the home with mom, dad, French grandpa, and a three-year-old sister. The infant resides in a middle-class family home with both parents working. There are also two languages spoken in the home: English and French. Mostly ; mostly French is articulated to the 11 month-old infant. The writer of this assignment observed the 11 month-old infant in the daycare he currently attends, a French bilingual program. The childcare providers display the childcare’s manipulative exploring items on carpet area in the center of the floor (This is very unclear. What is “manipulative exploring?) ; (What had it easier?) it had it easier for the writer of this assignment to observe the 11 month-old infant while he engaged in his environment.…

Rodriguez faces a few tensions in his personal experience such as being a "scholarship boy" as oppose to a well rounded student and and his life at home compared to a more friendly home environment. Rodriguez says that "I was a very good student, I was a also a very bad student. I was a scholarship boy, a certain kind of scholarship boy. Always successful, I was always unconfident. Exhilarated by my progress. Sad. I became the prized student - anxious and eager to learn. Too eager, too anxious - an imitative and unoriginal pupil." ( Rodrigues #283 ) Rodriguez describes himself here as imitating his teachers too much and being a perfect student instead of thinking for himself and taking in the knowledge he is given by his teachers and analyzing it and putting it to use. He is unoriginal and and uninteresting compared to a student who can use their knowledge in their own way and gets more involved. The other tension Rodriguez faces his the tension he has with his family, mostly his mother and father. At home his mother and father both support and encourage what he is doing very much but they didn't like the fact that he would always be in his room and the fact that the only thing he was involved with was school. "He permits himself embarrassment at their lack of education." (Rodriguez #286) This quote shows that Rodriguez's amount of knowledge of the english language and other subjects he had compared to his parents and therefore he was somewhat embarrassed by them and it created a tough home environment to live in because he didn't communicate much with his parents. This contrasts the home environment where their is a strong relationship between the family and their is communication.…

Sky Barragan, daughter of a good friend of mine is the child I observed for this written evaluation. Sky is four years old with a birthday quickly approaching this upcoming July. The observation took place at a local park in Pasadena that Sky frequents quite regularly for play time. We arrived at the park at approximately nine fifty in the morning and left the park at ten thirty. The park is about five acres and located in a quiet neighborhood of Pasadena, CA. It has a playground, basketball courts, handball courts, and plenty of open grass and trees which make for a calm and peaceful setting. The park was fairly empty with a few adults engaging in morning fitness activities, and the playground was empty. The temperature outside was about ninety…

The observed child is given a pseudonym in order to remain anonymous. She will be addressed as Lizzy in this paper. Lizzy is a 9 years old child who is part of a typical, traditional middle-class family I visited her while she was conversing with her best friend. She has no prior knowledge of me. Some degree of deception is involved in this observation as I lied about what I will observe; I said I will observe her house, not her actions. The deception was a critical effort to keep the results accurate. I feared she will act differently if she knew I was observing her. Afterall, all deception was undone after the observation, and I asked for her asent again. I informed Lizzy’s parents prior to the observation without any deception, and they provided parental consents. Lizzy was the only person deceived during the observation, and Lizzy’s friend and cousin were unaware of my observation. They were not informed since they were not being observed. Moreover, the observation highlights two domains of development: physical and social.…

For my observation study, I asked my cousin, Grace, if it would be alright with her to observe her oldest child. For the purposes of this paper, I will call her Jamie. Jamie is 17 years old, and will be entering her senior year of high school in the fall. Both of her parents have full-time jobs; her father is a salesman and her mother works as a manager at a hardware store. Economically, they do very well. The household has three newer model cars, one for each parent and one for Jamie to share with her 15 year old brother once he gets his driver’s license. They live in a nice house in a newer developed sub-division. Grace and her husband are both born in the United States with roots all over different parts of Europe. I met Jamie at her home and observed her for about an hour in that setting. Afterwards, we walked to the park near their home to address specific questions I had for her. Lastly, I followed up with Grace to answer additional questions that I wanted her to answer after speaking with Jamie. My choice in doing this observation on someone older was made because I feel that so much has changed since I was 17 and I was curious to gain perspective on how teenagers view the world. I work as a manager and some of my employees are high school aged students, so in a way I was also trying to gain understanding on what motivates this age group.…

    Preschool Observation

On November 13, 2014 at Grossmont College’s Child Development Center, I observed Konnor who was born on March 11, 2011. At the center, there are roughly around 15 children between the ages of three and five; there is one adult for every six or so kids. The preschool center’s indoor environment is safely secured with a locked gate that separates the outside door which leads to the younger children centers and parking lot with the hallway to the learning and play area. There are two separate rooms, but they both have screen doors that lead to the same play area outside. The room on the left, which Konnor is placed in, was smaller than the room on the right but they both had similar types of equipment and activities that children could join in on together. Both rooms were decorated with the colorful artwork of the preschool children, several tables and chairs were surrounding the indoor area, and there was an activity awaiting for kids in every corner; not one child was left with nothing to do. The outdoor environment is secured with a tall fence surrounding the outside area, along with a locked gate. The outdoors have many activities that encourage the kids to interact with one another. There are bicycles, a painting station, a mini-garden, a playground equipped with slides, a playhouse, large plastic blocks, and even a small stage for children to perform in dramatic play. The indoor and outdoor environment is secure for the children and encourages the children to interact with each other and play as well as learn. Tantrums were thrown, children disobeyed orders, but, the adults handled every situation presented with a calm voice and they let the children know why their action was wrong and what they can do to fix it. For example, Konnor threw a fit because there was no bicycle available for him to use, a teacher came by his side and leaned down to his…
