The 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry was a significant event because this was the first formal unit of the United State Army to be made up entirely of Black, or African American men. Over 180,000 African American men served in the Union army of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry and were led by Colonel Robert Gould Shaw. Another person that had influenced the blacks to join the union army was an ex-slave named Frederick Douglass. After Abraham Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation, many African American men had their hearts in the war against slavery which the Civil War had become of due to the Emancipation Proclamation. The movie Glory historically captures and reenacts the moments from what had happened from the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.…

But she still did not feel sorry for being colored, or hold anything against herself for it. “I do not weep at the world-I am too busy sharpening my oyster knife”, Zora kept this essay very entertaining using these creative ways of seeing her day to day life.…

The task assigned is a review of the book Black and Blue by Anna Quindlen. I will provide examples and summarize the main concepts of the book to include Intimate Partner Violence, Battering, and Intimate Terrorism. I will reference the text Family Violence, Across the Lifespan by Ola W. Barnett, Cindy Miller-Perrin, and Robin D. Perrin in order to support my theoretical claims. I will select a critical part of the book and explain why it was challenging to read and understand based on my perspective, and then select a character to analyze using one of the theoretical perspective. This book is sad and disturbing, the punishment inflicted on Fran by her husband Bobby Benedetto is unacceptable and criminal, but unfortunately, is probably a more common occurrence than we care to acknowledge.…
2) The characters in this novel don’t ever have names. The two main characters are forever referred to as “Man” and “Boy”, and since they are the only consistent characters throughout the book, the author builds each ones character traits through interaction with the other rather than giving specific details. The Man in this story is a very interesting character to understand. The other shows us the Man’s character through his interaction with the Boy, his son. Throughout the novel, this Man’s only objective is to watch over his son, to protect him and hopefully find a way to give him a better life. His perseverance and dedication to “being the good guys” and truly protecting and raising his son in such a twisted world show that he really is a good person, even in a world that no one ever could have imagined. For instance, he has a pistol with only two bullets and eventually only one bullet. But instead of taking the cowards way out or killing other humans with it, he is saving it so he can kill his son if he ever has the need so that he won’t suffer or be eaten by the “bad guys”. In a sick and twisted way, this shows just how much he cares for the boy.…
