Yes Sitting Too Long Can Kill You Summary
The article “Yes, Sitting Too Long Can Kill You, Even If You Exercise” by Susan Scutti claims that sitting for long periods time can lead to death. Many people and I included sit too much. Many people have to sit in school or at work all day long. The article states that “people who sat for less than 30 minutes at a time had the lowest risk of early death”(Scutti). However, students in our school have 56 minutes of sitting time before they travel to their next class and then sit again for another 56 minutes. A good point that the American Heart Association said was “Sit less, move more”. However, in some cases, that is just not possible. In schools, it’s not feasible to move more because in class you are just sitting at a desk. The

Susan Scutti in the article, “Yes, Sitting Too Long Can Kill You, Even If You Exercise”, asserts that sitting is a cause of early death. Scutti supports her assertions by demonstrating different examples on how sitting is awful for your health. The authors purpose is to inform and educate in order to save some lives from early death. The author writes in a formal tone for the people who are interested in their health. My initial reaction to the text would be that Susan Scutti is a very dramatic writer.…

Across the nation, thousands of students ranging from elementary to college levels are sent back to their place of residence after a long day of lectures with work they must complete in order to be prepared for the next day of class. For younger students, the load is minimal, and may only consist of reviewing their vocabulary words. However, for students in high school and beyond, their backpacks are stretching at the seams with books to read, notes to study, papers to write, projects to complete. While many will ignore their responsibilities to focus on their extracurriculars, headstrong students with a yearn for learning will set their sights on their assignments and stay cooped up at a desk for hours upon hours in order to comprehend every…

Student Life Redefined Indisputable in today’s civilization, it has become unmistakable that the equilibrium of time spent on students’ social, emotional, physical, and academic life is categorically corrupted—an overload of assignments and activities for students often causes a lack of energy and inadequate spare time, many times leading to superabundant stress. Steven Guzman, a twelve year old, runs the same routine every day: He wakes up, goes to school, does homework, and sleeps, with no time for anything else but to eat. The author goes on giving solid information from examinations about extended school hours and time tired out from sports. Students pretty much experience the same time crunch as their parents. Additionally, nearly all children are now also losing free or play time, which could cause harmful effects in the future.…

This mostly goes hand-in-hand with the time-management necessary to be a successful teacher. Since there are only so many hours in a week (168 to be exact) and in order to not die of malnutrition or exhaustion some of that time has to be spent eating and sleeping, Mrs. Satrom spends a majority of her free time grading papers or coming up with new ways to present information to her students in an exciting manner. She chooses to solely focus on work during the school year which, she admits, takes a toll on her social life, but her students are her number one priority so she does not worry about it too much and instead rejoices during the months of June and July when “[she comes] to life” (J. The healthcare industry has wide range stakeholders like hospitals, labs and insurers, each having their own distinct operating landscape. Being healthcare providers, all of them are required to comply with HIPAA policies and standards. Following a hybrid approach for implementing HIPAA would help these different healthcare entities manage their compliance related activities better. The risk based model which is easily scalable would enable entities to perform risk assessment based on their operating landscape, while the checklist would allow all these entities to easily evaluate their compliance with HIPAA. For example, hospitals have to perform far more robust risk assessment when compared to that of health insurers or labs as they operate…

I do declare and so do others believe Activity Time is a privilege and also very efficient. Without the social and physical time that we need, not only does this bring upon more stress for teachers, it also has for students of Ligon GT Magnet Middle. The 20 minutes taken out of our day is a time to let loose all energy and be ready to focus as soon as we return to our classes. All students should have the right to make up any work that they might have for a teacher in a timely manner, as well complete it for credit. This makes life easier for students, but for teachers, it helps them to be organized instead of them having to chase you down to get your work in. Now since time is longer during class periods, we are all gaining weight because we sit down all day. We, students at Ligon Middle deserve to have time for extra help needs instead of coming after school, or having to most likely figure it out on your own.…

It’s not only beneficial for students, its great for teachers as well. Teachers are always scrambling for the first two-three minutes of class just trying to get thing together. Putting on more time would get rid of that problem by allowing teachers to get things ready an set up for the class. Are teachers are not robots, not yet at least. They need to use the restroom too. So instead of leaving during the middle of class to go, they would now have plenty of time to do their business before class even starts. However the bad thing about adding more time is that they get a little less class time. So doing this would be working up to when the bell rings.…

“The school schedule is a series of units of time: the clock is king...how much time do I have with my kids, is the teacher’s key question” (Sizer pg. 40). School periods are about fifty minute each and students and teacher have a few minutes to go from class to class. Mr. Sizer argues that going from class to class gives the school day a kind of restless and hectic quality and provides the students with many distractions. Mr. Seizer point is strong, restlessness and distractions seem to go hand and hand here, once the children enter the class they must be resettled and their attention refocused leaving even less time for learning. In addition, most schools have at least one class that is called a “split class”. During “split classes” the student starts their class period, then, half way through it is interrupted so they can go to lunch or attend another activity. After they have finished lunch or the other activity they then…

Physical activities of all types have been reduced or eliminated in schools for more classroom time. However, by “solving” the academic problem, another is created when time to exercise is cut. Recess prevents and treats the current obesity epidemic. First Lady Michelle Obama, leader of the “Let’s Move!” initiative, points out that, “Over the past three decades, childhood obesity rates in America have tripled…nearly one in three children in America are overweight or obese” (“Learn the Facts”). Right now, in America, one in every three children and teens are considered obese or overweight. That number has over tripled since 1971 (American Heart Association). A longer recess would be more beneficial for the young students because it would give the children more social time, it could calm the students minds, which would reduce stress, and most of all, because physical fitness is important for children to keep them healthy. Although some people think that recess is a waste of time, and the students could be doing work, studies show that exercise, and social time is helpful for the kids. One reason that a longer recess would be more helpful for the children is because recess gives the kids a time to interact with their friends, and gives them some social time.…
