Nuclear energy: benefits and concerns
Since the economic development and population growth, the total energy requirement will continually increase. The carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides released by burning fossil fuels are threat to environment and humanity. The tendency of energy production and consumption are towards nonfossil fuel power. Therefore, the increase number of nuclear plants has been built to achieving mankind’s energy demand rise. Developing nuclear energy is a controversial issue. At the end of 2009, above 400 nuclear reactors were used in 30 countries, and more than 40 countries have expressed interest in nuclear energy (Ahearne, 2010). A high amount of money has invested into nuclear energy development. Whether nuclear energy is the solely method to solving the energy and environment problem still an intense discussion. The energy that is released by splitting the nucleus of atom fission or joining two atoms to become an individual atom nuclear fusion is called nuclear energy (IAEA, 2007). This mean using atom generate electric energy. This essay will analyses that the benefits of nuclear energy in environment protection and energy demand, and some issues
