In this essay, I will provide my stance on the give and take of security and privacy. This shall be done by explaining the impossible desire of man, my personal belief on the issue, and when I truly believe something is an invasion of privacy. One can agree that in order for one to be 100% secure they most sacrifice 100% of their privacy so that the measures of security can keep a constant watch on everything going on in every aspect of their life in order to grant absolute protection. The problem with society, is that some people still want their privacy, but they do not realize that it comes with a reduction of security. People want to feel safe and secure, but then they are not willing to sacrifice a bit of their privacy for it. After the "Attack on Terror" World Trade Center catastrophe on September 11, 2001, the whole country was in pandemonium. The issue was; how could the government have allowed such evil people to get onto our airplanes and hijack them? The solution to this issue became tighter airport security and the creation of Homeland Security. Full body checks including inner genital area pat downs, x-ray scans, and even the prohibition of outside water bottles became regular. Something as simple as the size of a lotion bottle became an area of scrutiny because terrorists could hide bomb materials in them. The expression "you can't have your cake and eat it too" applies perfectly here. Simply put, it means you cannot have the best of both worlds. People once again were in uproar. They were so livid as to how security could be breached by terrorists, but then they are absolutely unwilling to comply with the new means of being protected. These pat downs are absolutely crucial. That one man who didn't get the inner genital area pat down could easily have been the man with a knife strapped to his inner thigh ready to kill a handful of innocent people.
