However they should expect to have a lot of fun working with the other members of the court and working on cases. It really is one of the most worthwhile things I have done in high school.
JW: In your opinion, what is the best part of youth court?
DM: Personally, Youth Court represents two things. The opportunity for kids to practice law in a courtroom setting and further their interest and knowledge of our legal system. Secondly it is an opportunity for students to redeem themselves. Those who are on trial are being provided with a second chance. Their crime will be expunged from their record, and they do not have to pay for legal aid. The best thing about Youth Court is that we are are providing our peers with an opportunity to learn from their mistakes, without it having a negative impact on their futures.
JH: The best part of Youth Court is the feeling you get as a defense attorney knowing that you helped to represent someone as well as possible in the court. All the clients I've worked as a defense attorney for have been good kids who have just made mistakes. When I'm working for them and getting to know them it is just great knowing that I've helped someone out. There's nothing better than a smile and thank you from a client that you have represented
