Youth Swim Analysis
Last Year I got the opportunity to create a youth swim program out of a Toronto master’s swim club. After swimming with the club for three years and having my own swim instructing experience, I approached the head coach with an idea for a new youth program. I pitched that the program would run alongside the master swim to accommodate for parents who desired the convenience of having their children swim at the same time and location. The head coach was receptive to the idea and contacted the athletes to see if there was interest. After promoting the program in the summer, I started coaching in the fall at full capacity.
The program is for young athletes who want to learn and improve on their competitive swimming skills and fitness without committing

It seems like the only improvements YMCA can make is by offering a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) classes for adults as a life saving measure until the paramedics arrive. This could save someone’s live in an emergency situation. At the beginning of each season Wink has swimmers and divers write down six goals for themselves that they will have accomplished by the end of season. One goal must be nutrition based, one must be academic, one must be training wise, and the other three have to be swimming or diving related. Wink has the swimmers and divers fill out a fifteen-page packet that consists of the swimmer or diver stating their goal, and explaining how they will go about reaching their goals in detail. On the last page of the packet the swimmer or diver re-writes all six of his goals down, then has to sign it. This sheet is photocopied by Wink and then posted just about everywhere in the swimmers life, at home, in the bathroom, in their locker etc. Goals help the swimmers keep their mind away from distracting things such as drugs or alcohol that could affect how their season goes. Without these goals on swimmers and divers minds 24/7, it makes it that much harder to swim faster and throw flips…

Along with administering health care, my main goal for working in this setting is to be a positive influence in students’ lives and give back to the community by making the athletes that I serve into leaders. Being a leader and equipping others with the ability to become leaders is a passion of mine. What many people fail to notice is that this is a crucial time for many students as they attempt to grow into adults and not all coaches and athletic trainers seize the moment to support them along their journey. I want to be able to make an impact on students’ lives and change their…
