Ironically, until last year, the Ruben Ulli Ute Recreation Center, our local swimming pool(with whirlpool and saunas) and fitness center, had this type of program in place. Unfortunately, city council saw this type of program as too costly to the tax payers, and it was…

The Warriors Soccer Camp (WSC) is a new summer camp located in Mississauga, Ontario, more specifically St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School which is also a community center. The Warriors Soccer camp is a youth camp for both genders ages 6-12. In our program we verse other soccer camps from different cities, WSC is the only camp in Mississauga which we have organized to play against other soccer camps in the region, such as Titans soccer club in Oakville. We are a 7 hour camp and offer facilities such as showers and pools which are found in the community center. We really want to go over the top for our soccer camp as well as exceed our children’s expectations for our camp. In order to fulfil our camp needs, we kindly ask to borrow $25, 000.…
One organization that I’m involved at Goucher College is the Futuro Latino Learning center (FLLC). This program provides opportunities specifically to the Latino community of Baltimore County. The students of Goucher College teach classes and there is ESL and basic computer training. Students are not only helping the Latino community but they get the opportunity to speak Spanish and improve their language skills. In my first year of college I helped with teaching a class; I was the assistant tutor. Now this year I am helping out with the children program playtime and cultural program. While the adults are taking their classes they drop off their children. This program provides a safe space and for children to learn about their culture and speak…
In the article “Clean Up the Dance Halls” Elisabeth Perry examines the age of the Progressive Era and the efforts by the reformers to get rid of unregulated dance halls. Perry adds how dance halls that provided “stylish drinks” and guaranteed popularity influenced many innocent girls to leave their households to embrace a life of alcohol, unmoral dancing, and eventually sexually relations with strangers. Perry also adds how the girls could not resist a man's love despite it meaning that they would loose their “girlhood.” One of the prominent reformers during this time was Belle Israels who sought to protect girls from being “played with” and sought to put an end to dance halls. As a result, the Progressive Era stirred together different social issues which usually led to controversy and tension as seen in the dance hall reform.…
There are multiple ways that recent trends in the sport industry are affecting the YMCA. A majority of them would be revolving around the economy and how the YMCA is considered a luxury to the people. Others would be the increase of fitness in the world and sport curiosity and also the elderly still maintaining their healthy lifestyles. The increased popularity of celebrity athletes in the world are leading to an increased popularity in the sport world (Balmer, 2009). The battle against obesity is increasing the number of people who join a fitness club or health organization. Also, many people are beginning to try to find both healthier lifestyles and seeking a balance between work and leisure (Sports, 2007). Lastly, the way that kids are being taught is changing; practices are becoming known as best practices and the kids are learning more of the sport and becoming better (Stephens, 2009).…

NBC’s Parks and Recreation launches audiences into a world where a low-status governmental department struggles to overcome underhanded bureaucracy and red tape. The Parks & Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana consists of an eclectic selection of employees, ranging from the ignorant yet good-spirited Andy Dwyer to the sassy, but sage, Donna Meagle. Yet the zeitgeist of the department is found within the unique personalities of Leslie Knope, Ron Swanson, and April Ludgate. These three characters, although having wildly varying interests and views, share certain attributes characteristic of the Enlightenment and Romantic eras. The beliefs of the Enlightenment thinker and the Romantic figure are clearly conveyed by the actions and dialogue…
Based on the United States (U.S.) Census Bureau in 2011, there were roughly 52 million Hispanics living in the nation, which represented about 16.7% of the total population (Zepeda, 2011). People of Hispanic origin are the nation's largest ethnic minority group (Zepeda, 2011). Arizona's Hispanic population grew faster than other groups over the past decade (Zepeda, 2011). Arizona had nearly 1.9 million Hispanic residents as of April 2010, an increase of 46% over the previous decade (Zepeda, 2011). By tradition, the Hispanic family is dependent on one another and possesses the most important social unit (Zepeda, 2011). In the Hispanic culture, it is customary to be morally responsible for other family members and help them in their time of need when they are experiencing financial problems, unemployment, poor health conditions, and other life issues (Zedpeda, 2011). Respect for the elderly and authority is a major point of teaching as well as preserving the Spanish language within the family (Zepeda, 2011). The Hispanic population have low rates of educational attainment, family income, insurance coverage, and a higher rate of poverty compared to non-Hispanic Whites (“Summary health statistics”, 2012). Value/Belief Pattern The Hispanic community is predominately Catholic (“Transcultural nursing”, n.d.). Hispanics consider health to be “a gift from God and should not be taken for granted” (“Transcultural nursing”, n.d., para.1). Illness prevention is practiced through prayer, wearing religious medals or amulets, and by…

My personal reaction when visiting the downtown YMCA facility was that everything seemed well organized. From the moment you walk through the door you had immediate help from staff members trying to assist you in whatever you needed. The staff members were able to answer any questions I had prepared for them and even gave me a tour of the whole facility. During the tour I was impressed with how detailed and well the staff member was with explaining what programs were available within the facility. He presented a whole lay out on how I would go about joining the different programs they had available, fee information, and the certain age groups I could expect to see within certain programs.…
I intern at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center, that provides comprehensive health care and support services to youth from 10 to 24 years old. At the beginning of the internship, I was assigned to serve the Harlem community which has high proportions of Black and Hispanic residents who have low socioeconomic status. Many of the Harlem residents live below the Federal Poverty Level and spend more than 30% of their monthly gross income on rent. Harlem has higher unemployment rates than New York City in general. In addition, Harlem has a high percentage of people without a high school diploma. As a result, many of the Harlem residents have no credential to get high-paying jobs. The primary languages spoken at home are Spanish, French and Chinese. The majority of the Harlem residents has low English proficiency.…
