10 June 2013 Young Goodman Brown Young Goodman Brown is a newlywed at the beginning of this story. Not only is he a newly wed to his wife Faith, but he also has newly found spiritual Faith. This couple is seemingly devoted to each other. As revealed by the pink ribbons on her cap Faith is pure and innocent just like Young Goodman Browns spiritual Faith. Young Goodman brown is as his name describes a young and good man, but when tempted by evil, he decides to take a walk with the devil. His mission is to find answer to questions he has surrounding his life and Puritan beliefs. Young Goodman Brown had his wife his community, and his religious beliefs. Was that enough, no he wanted something more. He wanted answers about his reality. Goodman Brown is counting on Faith to redeem him after his errand with the Devil. Faiths, was for some unknown reason fearful for him to take the journey into the forest and suggests he stay home and pray tarry with her. However he stresses that the task must be completed before sunrise, so reluctantly they parted. He resolves that after this night, he will stay by the side of his good and pious wife forever. When starting out on his overnight errand Young Goodman Brown feels he is strong enough spiritually to take this journey with the devil and resist the temptations of evil. As he sets out his wife Faith asks him not to leave. He replies “my love and my Faith, of all nights in the year, this one night must I tarry away from thee. My journey, as thou callest it, forth and back again, must needs be done ‘twixt now and sunrise. What, my sweet, pretty wife, dost thou doubt me already, and we but three months
