Love is patient, love never fails and adultery was understood to be destructive in the earliest days of civilization, thus earning its own ‘Thou Shalt Not’. Adultery literally refers to married persons having sexual intercourse with someone other than their lawful spouse. Adultery is hurtful and affects psychologically, spiritually and emotionally. Philosophers who teach an ethical theories of conduct named utilitarianism, state that hurting people is wrong, period. In this essay I will discuss why should there be a law against adultery.
When two people walk down the aisle and promise to love one another ‘till death do us part’ they are stating that they will never stray from their loved one and always be true to them. However, a number of research has initiated that more spouses have broken their vows which they had made to keep their marriage sacred to each other. Adultery has been viewed by the law in many jurisdictions as an offense injurious to public morals and also as an abuse of the marriage relationship. Committing adultery is not uncommon to say the least. I strongly believe that there should be laws against adultery. Our society has come up with catchphrases which try to justify the view of adultery such as sleeping around, fooling around or having an extramarital affair to name a few. These expressions try to defend adultery as being guilt-free.
However, some social conservatives are fighting for what they view as a serious article of faith for example criminal adultery laws. In the United
