Zekhethelo Monologue
He's been planning this for weeks.

Snitch!

You think you're smart.

You know very well that your name is on the parolee list.

Where did you hear that?

I want to get out when I've served my time.
Please tell them to remove my name.

You again?

- What are you doing here?
- So this is how you roll?

No, girl, you haven't.

It's just that this thing here...

will never work.

Hello, charmer boy.

- Hello, Ma.
- How are you?

I'm alright.

You won't believe Nkunzi.

He had the chance to escape, but he didn't take it.

But then again, he knows how hard it is to be a fugitive.

No, Ma. Apparently, he snitched on Jobela, and then refused parole.

I don't know what's that about.

- Maybe it's about Zekhethelo.
- What do you mean?

Zekhethelo is

It's about your father.

Father? I don't have a father.

My child.

The Bible says...

"Honour your father and mother".
Don't forget that.

Hold it.

Are we talking about the same person?

The same man who terrorised your family?

We've put that behind us...

and we've also heard that he wants us to forgive him.

So, I've decided...

to baptise him.

He wants to be baptised?

If you want your father to change...

nothing will beat...

him becoming God's child.

- You believe all of this?
- At first, it was difficult for me to believe it too.

But he's done a lot to prove that he wants to change.

Visit him and you'll see the change.

No, thanks.

What I don't get is...

that you really believe him.

We'll go on with the baptism.

He'd love for you to be there.

Girl, here.

Take this money and leave.

Go to Port Shepstone or Port Edward.
I don't care.

To do what there?

To start a new life.
When you get there...

you can work in a hotel or a shop.
Maybe you'll find a man who'll love you.

I know we don't know each other that well...

but Ma said we'd learn to love each other.

She lied to you.
We'll never love each other.

Gcinokuhle, don't you want to marry me anymore?

No offence. You're a good

I'd like to let you know...

that you've wasted your time.

I know everyone hates me.

I'm sorry I took so long to come see you.

I've thought long and hard about your request.

We have a bad history.

But I've spoken to the prison authorities...

and they've confirmed that you're serious about changing.

Njomane...

you don't seem excited about the baptism.

Thank you, Pastor...

for your efforts...

but this thing...

you want to do means nothing now.

I'm confused now.

What I mean is there won't be a baptism anymore.

This is pointless.
Let's just forget about it.

Vader, please take me back to my cell.

I'm sorry, Pastor.

Madlokovu...

I hope...

you're not giving me a lesson in our culture.
I know it very well.

We'll just let people know there's been a change of plans. Just a minute.

There's a car that's just driven into my yard.
It might just be them.

Thank you very much, driver.

We're finally here.

Bab'Cetshwayo.

Good afternoon, Baba.

We're finally here.

Baba, where can we find GC?

If you still want to be in my home, don't ever utter that name again.

It's Gcinokuhle Gamakhulu Cetshwayo, okay?

We're very sorry.
Can we please see Gama?

- So you can corrupt him with your KwaMashu

However, according to the tract, “Are Roman Catholics Christian?”, the baptism of infants is not. Chick goes on to explain how infant baptism is not a viable means of salvation. Nowhere in the Bible does it state that baptizing infants is an adequate way of bringing new members into the faith. Being a Fundamentalist, Jack T. Chick takes the Bible literally. This leaves little to no room for interpretation of the written text on the Bible’s pages. Baptism is for the believers in Christ. How can an infant, unable to reason, believe in Him? Acts 8:35-38 is an account of, what seems to be, a rational man, wanting to be baptized after learning of the Good News about Jesus. Once he had learned about Christ, the man, Philip, was able to decide for himself that he desired…

Baptism is an extensively significant religious practice within the Christian faith which is why it continues to have an unrelenting influence on the life of an adherent. Mark 16:16 quotes: “He that believeth and is baptised shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” Essentially, baptism symbolises a break with the old sinful way of life and demonstrates a full commitment and determination to begin a new way of life obeying God and fulfilling His perfect Will. One who is baptised can never go back to the old way, or else he stands in jeopardy of losing out on eternal life and consequently being consumed in the lake of fire. The significance of baptism within Christianity is evident from the features of…

The adult candidate understood what this ritual so to speak meant and consists of so they were totally at ease. I would have to say that social beliefs and judgments play a huge role in religion and how we practice it today. Many of us were raised (at least in my community) that you had to go to church on Sunday and this was not an area to bargain in; even though many of us didn’t know why we were actually going. Many of these beliefs are passed down from generation to generation and are practiced to this day. This is where conformity comes in. I can tell by the youth that were waiting to be baptized that they really didn’t want to be here but had to because this is what their parents said. The level of anxiousness varied based on Gender; the girls looked nervous and were more fidgety than the boys. From where I was sitting, you could tell that the boys were nervous as well, but their macho bravado (even for the younger ones) wouldn’t let them exhibit it too much; I am guessing that they didn’t want to look like they were weak in the eyed of their peers. All of this is a part of Group…

The pastor recities many rituals which everyday people like myself cannot understand. These rituals are a sign of the infant being induced into the Orthodox faith. After the rituals are complete, the pastor along with one of the parents proceeds to dunk the infant in the cold holy water that has also been blessed by the pastor. At this time, the infant begins to cry hysterically, but it is a process that has to be done in order to be inducted into the Orthodox faith.…

Baptism was a healing ritual for Indians and Christians. “Indians understood the baptismal ritual as physically curative. Jesuits similarly expected miraculous recovery to accompany baptism”.vi It is important to remember that John the Baptist baptized Jesus so that He could indentify with sinners. His baptism symbolizes the first “into the righteousness of Christ, dying with Him and rising free from sin in order to walk in the newness of life”vii. It is significant to note that scholars argue over whether or not Jesus actually baptized anyone. Most think that he never did, because our sacrament of baptism commemorates the death and resurrection of…

Translated “the law of prayer [is] the law of faith”, lex orandi, lex credendi is a basic principal of liturgical theology. The way we view and practice baptism as an act of worship, significantly impacts us in terms of our faith. At the heart of the matter, Pedobaptists and credobaptists essentially disagree on the meaning of lex orandi, lex credendi. This essay will explain the main differences that makes baptism mean something different amongst various Christian denominations. Furthermore, this essay will explore biblical texts in order to explain the defense for both infant and adult baptism. It will also examine the history of various denominations within Christianity in an attempt to describe the current theologies of Christians today, most importantly their views regarding baptism. Christians from various different denominations disagree about the meaning and purpose of the sacrament of baptism because they disagree about the nature of faith, the role of baptism, the means of salvation, the nature of grace, and the function of the…

It is a question that is more frequently asked by people of other faith backgrounds. Dr. Anderson’s lecture echoes such question “Is baptism really needed?” The idea of Baptism is based on the concept of prevenient grace. The term “prevenient grace” is a Latin word prae that means “before,” and venire that means “to come.” Though Stookey points out that the prevenient grace is there before as ask for it, he makes the case that “God does not wait for us to request help or even to know that we need it.” (46) On a similar note, Dr.Anderson’s question “If prevenient grace is there, why do we need the ritual?” gives way to another discussion of the connection between baptism and prevenient grace.…
