In the agricultural field it is legal for pickers to be minors. This is a norm or a social expectations that guide behavior, that fact that such young children are doing hard labor and missing school is a totally new concept to me. This is normal to the parents the employers and the children. The documents highlighted children as young as twelve feeling like the had a finical responsibility to provide for their families through labor. It is okay for them to fall behind in their education and no one really seem to care or encourage them to be more then a migrant worker. Zulema Lopez’s mother commented on how mature she is for her age but, her life style and the responsibilities she burdens herself with made her become mature. These children do not get a chance to actually be children they are thrown into this life of hard labor and responsibility long before they themselves could even remember. They sacrifice their entire childhood for the families and for farms and for the americans who eat what they pick. Being a migrant worker is extremely harsh and dangerous exceptionally to young children. She also had an opportunity to get out of this life and finish her education but, that meant being away from her family and she could not do it. She moved back and began.
