"A day at the track" Descriptive essay
I don't know what it is about racing, but I really enjoy going to the track. The

combination of all the cars racing, the smell of the smoking tires in the burn out lane, and

the adrenaline that flows through your body as the cars line up just does it for me.

Watching the cars going down the quarter mile of black pavement at a high rate of speed

simply amazes me.

There are so many different cars at the track racing. From a 1970 Chevelle to a

brand new 2003 Corvette, and sometimes if your lucky there is a full blown dragster there

qualifying for a big race coming up. I really like walking up and down the staging lanes

looking at all the cars with their gleaming paint jobs and their black, super wide drag

racing slicks. Some of the motors in these cars are simply magnificent. They're all chromed

up and so clean that you can eat off of them. Just looking at one of these bad boys isn't as

much fun as actually seeing them taking off down the track. I can't imagine what it would

be like to be inside one of them when racing.

The next best thing is the burn out. It's so cool to see the cars that you just looked

at come up and do a burn out. The best part is when a car does its burn out and the pale

white billowing smoke virtually makes the car disappear. The more smoke there is the

better it is. Doing a burn out serves more of a purpose than a show of smoke. It heats up

the tires to the point that it sticks to the pavement giving it unbelievable traction for the

launch off the line.

When a car is done doing its burn out it comes up to the starting line. The

adrenaline really starts pumping at this point. The car lines up and gets ready for the green

light so they can go. No one, not even the driver knows when this light is going to light

up. This just adds to the excitement of the race. The driver of the car starts revving the

engine and then when the light turns green he takes of like a bat out of hell down the

quarter mile. You know who won by

    Is Nascar a Sport?

    • 1380 Words

If one has ever watched a NASCAR race, one will see that it lasts a long time and that the drivers make no stops for bathroom breaks. A NASCAR racecar is built for one thing; speed, not comfort. While racing, the drivers reach speeds up to 200 mph, and sometimes higher than that. When the drivers turn at such high speeds a G-force is formed, and this causes a high pressure against the driver’s torso as he or she is pushed against the vehicle (DiCicco). The cars are built to be very aerodynamic which helps increase speed. Because of this, much of the air flows around the car instead of inside it (DiCicco). This leaves the driver with little oxygen during the several hour long races. Inside of the car, temperatures reach up to two hundred degrees; to make the drivers a little cooler, an air conditioned hose is hooked up to their helmets to supply them with more air.…

The known obstacles are avoided with ease. Then suddenly a hidden obstacle appears, attempting to change my course and thwart my efforts to stay on the road of life. I slam my breaks, and screech to a halt: attempting to avoid a disaster on the road of life. I navigate around the obstacle with care but it can not be avoided. My paint is scratched and my body is dented but I will survive. Once clear of the obstacle I floor it, back on the road of life attacking every corner and straight away. Lap after lap, race after race, season after season I attack the road of life. I return to the garage every so often to have my maintenance. New parts, paint, and tires. I keep returning to the road of life, each time knowing more and more. I have become an expert know. No obstacle is a surprise, and all dangers are known. I am at the peak of my race on the road of life. Powerful and graceful, a beast I have become. it seems as if no competitors can challenge me. I am a champion on the road of life. My ignorance is growing. I overlook the unproven racers. Fear is not building. I stop attacking and become complacent. Eventually other cars come along. They try to pass me on the road of life. At first they fail. Being a veteran racer I skillfully thwart their effort to pass me. As time goes on and more distance is covered the other cars creep up on me. They are now veterans as well, racers ready to pass me on the road of life. I try to block them, but I can do no more. They overtake me and speed away down the road of life. I have been defeated. My crew calls me to the garage, they know it is time. As I slow I realize that my time has come. I am ready to accept that my time as a racer is done. I fear for the worst. Will I be taken apart, or left for scrap in a rust filled lot where all hope is gone? I am filled with fear once more as my future is unknown. I am kept in my dark garage, not knowing what is going on with the…
