"One or more persons related by blood, adoption, or marriage, living and cooking together as a single housekeeping unit, exclusive of household servants. A number of persons but not exceeding two living and cooking together as a single housekeeping unit though not related by blood, adoption, or marriage shall be deemed to constitute a family."

Types of Family: Family can be classified in the basis of Structure, authority, marriage and locality.
1.On the basis of structure:
i.Nuclear: two adults living together in a household with their own or adopted children.
ii.Extended: when close relatives other than a married couple and children live either in the same household or in a close and continuous relationship with one another, that is called an extended family.
An extended family may include grant parents, brothers, their wives sister and their husbands etc.
2.On the basis of the marriage:
i.Monogamy family: a man or a woman is not allowed to marry more than one spouse at any one time. ii.Polygamy: this allows a husband or wife to have more than one spouse. iii.Polygyny: a man may be married to more than one woman at the same time. iv.Sororal polygyny: a man is allowed to be married to more than one woman at the same time and wives are sisters.
