A Memorable Birthday
I had one of the best experiences in my life at the age of 12. I remember that was when I and my father went on our first fishing trip together. It was not only a time of bonding for the two of us, but it also was my first experience feeling a sense of peace as I shared that memorable birthday with my father.
My father and my mother divorced when I was 3 years old. We never did get to spend any real time together. I would see him maybe once a month and talk with him on the phone weekly. I really could not understand why my father was not in the home with us and why we did not have a father son relationship, like my other friends had with their fathers. I told him that I did not care where we went as long as we were together. To my surprise the weekend of my twelfth birthday almost two months after I asked him, he came to pick me up for the weekend.
I can remember him telling me that we were going somewhere really special the next morning for my birthday. I was very eager to know what we were going to be doing or where we were going the next morning. As you can imagine I could hardly sleep that night because I could not help but feel eager to just spend some time alone with my dad. I finally did fall asleep but I still was anticipating the next morning. Finally, my dad came into my room at 5:00 am and told me that it was time for us to go and spend that father son time together. It was my birthday and I was with my father. I was the happiest person in the world. In my eyes this was going to be the best birthday of all times. I
