May 21, 2012 Conflicts In A Midsummer Nights Dream There are many conflicts that open up Shakespeare’s play A Midsummer Nights Dream. Hermia’s father, Egeus, wants her daughter to marry Demetrius. Hermia is in love with Lysander and does not want to marry the man her father chose for her. Hermia’s best friend Helena, is in love with Demetrius and will do anything for him to love her. Another conflict occurred when Hermia woke up to her true love being gone. Helena and Hermia become involve in an altercation because Hermia believes that Helena stole Lysander from her. In addition, Titania and Oberon are going through conflict because Oberon wants more attention from Titania. Oberon puts a spell on Titania to fall in love with the next thing she sees. Egeus is very disappointed because his daughter refuses to marry the man he wants her to (9). Hermia and Lysander plan to run away into the woods to get married to each other. Lysnder stated “Fair love, you faint with wand’ring in the wood” (Shakespeare 57) Hermia and Lysander’s love for each other is expressed a lot in this play. Hermia is astonished when she wakes up to Lysander being gone. Hermia was furious. She shouted “Lysander! What, removed? Lysander, Lord! What, out of hearing? Gone?” (Shakespeare 65). In the woods, Demetrius comes to find Hermia. Helena follows her love, Demetrius, into the woods. She tells Demetrius that “she is sick when she look not on you” (Shakespeare 49)
