A Narrow Escape
Whenever my mind travels over the past event of my life on the 5th of December i start to have goosebumps. During my holidays my parents and i went to Malaysia and there i almost escape from death.
In the west of Malaysia, there is the cobra which is the most dangerous and venomous one. This snake prefers to wander in cool places such as rivers, streams where it appears most often in the afternoon.
In addition, the most surprising thing is that there are plenty of fishes there, so, whoever goes there should watch out for snakes which are deadly.
It was then that one day i came face to face with a cobra while fishing with my brother Harry. My brother and i came with our mother in a estate where he had some works. Harry who loved fishing asked me to accompany him to the nearby stream. There we saw water snakes which seemed harmless.
Then one day i came close to death that i never tried to fish again.A cobra which was lying in the grass with its tail in the water but was hidden in the grass. As i put my hand in the water, i felt something rough, thinking that it was a fish i tried to pull it out of the water.
But it resisted violently and to my great horror, my heart missed a beat, a cold bead of sweat ran down my spine, it was the cobra. I at once ran for my safety. My brother who was not far away ran for my help and took a stick to beat it. But suddenly i felt a terrible pain and realised what happened.

    Diction In The Rattler

The author’s diction heightens the power and force behind the snake as it responds to the man. When the man first stumbles across the rattlesnake, it is “undulant” while “waiting” and holding its ground in calm “watchfulness.” The diction conveys slight tension in the otherwise still setting. The atmosphere feels tranquil, and while the snake is cautious, it is still at ease. This tranquility disappears, however, as the man attacks, and the snake “shoots” into a dense bush and shakes its “furious” signal after a “twitch” of its tail. The snake’s movements show much more power than they did before the man attacked. In turn, the atmosphere becomes more tense as the snake becomes more forceful. The diction describing the snake before and after the man attacks creates a contrast…

The snake is a common factor in a number of James Dickey’s poems. In many cultures, snakes are associated with death. In Egypt, snakes were used for sinister purposes such as murder and suicide. In Greek mythology, snakes were often associated with deadly presences. Medusa, the Gorgon, had snakes growing from her head instead of hair. In Christianity, the Serpent tempted Adam and Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. God cursed the Serpent “above all animals”…

Blood flowing out of my skull and hands. I can feel my whole head throbbing. The surges of pain continue over and over. I decide to pull strength from within to get up to check out the quad. I soon realize that the crack I heard was the snapping of the axle rod forcing the tire to be bent and rendering the quad un-drivable. Leaving the quad behind, I decided to walk back to camp. Of course I forgot my phone back at camp not planning that I would be taking a mouthful of dirt. As I walk I notice a white figure out of the corner of my eye. Since I was hurt and not sensible, my first thought was that this figure is a flesh seeking monster ready to gobble up my entire body whole. Given the fact that I actually believed that, I began to quicken my pace from a walk to a jog to a sprint. Just as I was ready to fall over and die of exhaustion, I notice an orange glow near me. This time it wasn’t a monster it was light coming from my camp’s fire. After my lengthy journey, I reached my dad and he rushed over to me baffled by my injury. With tears in my eyes, I sat down and began to regurgitate the whole experience. That night as I drift off into the abyss that was my dreams, I settled on the fact that the white figure was only the tail of a squirrel. I guess I deserved that fright given the fact that I did invade his…

It’s my day off; we’ve landed at the island of Tristan D’Acunha. It’s a beautiful island with perfect weather conditions. It felt good to finally be back on dry land. Our ship has run out of food so I volunteered to go look for food. We had men fishing, men hunting, and men looking for food that’s been growing. I was searching for grown food when I came across a spring of fresh water. I knew we were running low on fresh water so I ran back to the ship, brought some help and hauled tons of drinking water to the ship. When we got back the captain had our meal ready, it wasn’t much but at least it was something. All we had was fish to eat but there was plenty enough there to feed the crew. The fish was gray in color with a bunch of black dots on the upper half of the body. Coming down the side of the fish looked to be a reddish almost pink stripe.…

Every morning she’d wake me up to see if I’ll ever be able to see any manatees on our vacation in Bonita Springs. With my luck, I was never able to see any, and that lead to a family joke. They always made fun of me for it, because my mom had the luck of being able to see them. Then there was me, who the manatees seemed to be afraid of.…
