CHARACTERS: TOWNSPEOPLE
• Two-faced, nosey, rude, observant
• They paid their respects to Emily
• But they waited until it was okay to open up the locked up room (par. 56 – “They waited until Miss Emily was decently in the ground before they opened it.”)
• They were extremely curious to see what was kept hidden
(par. 56 – “..there was one room in that region above stairs which no one had seen in forty years, and which would have to be forced.”)
• Room was kept private for Emily
• They noticed the dust, the indentation of the pillow and the indentation of the hair strand (par. 59 – “The violence of breaking down the door seemed to fill this room with pervading dust.” // par. 59 – “..upon the pillow beside him lay that even coating of the patient and biding dust.” // par. 60 –
