Triumph of the City has a positive focus towards the too frequently dismissed efficiency of the city. Glaeser sheds light on the ways that our cities are more environmentally friendly than they might give off. Cities are far more resourceful when it comes to infrastructure, transportation, land use, social interaction, and the overall well-being of…
Pollution is something that people cause everyday of their lives and can be easily prevented. It harms the lives of many because it poisons the air with unhealthy toxins. Also, it dirties the water and soil on the Earth. This is seriously damaging the Earth and will continue to get worse if people do not fix their actions. One way to prevent pollution is carpooling, this way you don’t have to put waste into the air from more than one car. Most people do not care about this topic and they think one person won’t make a difference, but every little bit helps and it can’t hurt to help save the Earth because it dying quickly. Pollution needs to be addressed properly and the public must help save the Earth.…
Have you ever been to a busy city like New York City or Boston? The cities are constantly alive with the hustle of…
Firstly, vehicles are one of the leading causes of pollution. They burn high amounts of fuel and release toxin gases; for instance, during the eighteenth century, in London, this resulted in an increase of carbon dioxide in the air, and citizens had to wear face masks to avoid getting sick. Nowadays, engineers have made gasoline and electric powered cars which are economically friendly, and burn less fuel. Furthermore, local travelers who travel as far as going to work, school or shopping or more should only use four cylinders or less powered vehicles to release less CO2 into the atmosphere.…
When population density begin to escalate it causes an expansion in noise and pollution. However, some individuals are fortunate enough to live in areas that have local laws that help to control noise and pollution. Yet for some, in small and larger urban areas different factors over a period of time become a problem and may not fall under those guidelines. Territoriality, privacy, personal space, and noise shape urbanization. By next year, it has been estimated that most individuals will live in metropolitan cities. (Urban Environment,…
Everyone knows the heartbreaking tale of Romeo and Juliet. The two teens so desperately in love, they were willing to go to the extremist of measures to prove it. It is one of the most influential pieces of work ever written. Themes found in Romeo and Juliet are still widely emphasized in today’s pop culture. Take, for example, West Side Story.…
In his book Urban Geography, Michael Pacione, discusses the “Future City-Cities of the Future”. In his analysis there are several principles that must be included in the future city in order for it to strive and be successful, “by 2025 65 percent of the world’s population will be in urban areas” (Pacione 2005) The need for the city of the next 100 years to be sustainable in all aspects is paramount for its success and its citizens to live in peace and harmony. The factors that will play a large part in deciding the fate of our future cities are addressing population growth, the economics of cities, or making cities economically competitive, the effective managing and creation of various modes of transportation and mobility and managing the largest pollutant most inefficient parts of of our cities: buildings. All while maintaining high ecological and environmental standards including proper reduction and disposal of waste . The city of the next 100 years must be successful in managing the impacts of all of these stated areas. I will highlight current cities that are struggling with some of these areas and what must be done for the future to prepare for the next century.…
The people of New York have the right to enjoy an environment that is conducive to the full development of individuals as human beings. This is an environment that is not only free from obvious threats of physical harm such as crimes but also from concealed threats that have long term effects on human health and functioning such as air pollution. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the New York City government to improve ambient air quality in New York through pollutant level monitoring, air pollution clearly remains a major threat to the people’s health. (NYSDEC, 2008) Industrial and vehicle emissions continue to be the main source of air pollution in the city, which in turn exposes the people to greater risks of contracting diseases from air-borne pollutants and carcinogens. (Routledge, et. al. 1383) Thus, there is a need not only for strengthening existing air pollution-control methods and legislation but in making them more effective by encouraging public participation to solve the problem.…
I just heard of my mother yesterday while she was watching TV that "do your best to take your children away from this city and let them breathe the clean air; that's the least you can do to keep them alive". Wondering about what she had just told me I found out that she was absolutely right. Pollution and traffic have made the residents of big cities vulnerable to so many problems. Perhaps I could save my family from the monsters, but would it be the best solution to cope with the mentioned problems. I would undoubtedly say "NO". First and most importantly, respective authorities should improve the quality of the petrol we use. Certainly most people know that when the petrol used in cars is of low quality it would not be burned completely and car engines would release lots of poisonous gases into the atmosphere. It may even be concluded that-although not sure whether it is scientifically proven- it is not the amount of petrol used which leads to more pollution but whether it is burned efficiently or not. Not to mention that there are some elements such as lead which can be removed from the petrol to make it less hazardous; unleaded fuel I mean. The second remedy is to keep all factories and industries even the smaller ones away from cities. Apparently a significant part of the pollution is the result of the activity of some factories constructed too close to the cities. Whatever is emitted from these factories goes directly into the cities. Although the activity of these factories is essential for the economy, the problem they create by making the air less clean is not something to be neglected. Therefore, they have to be constructed farther afield.…
Eliminate Carbon Dioxide you should drive a low Carbon Dioxide Vehicle support clean energy sources Alterntives to driving when possible to walk or ride.…
Additionally, the people of the community should take more action in helping out the environment so that they can enjoy living in a clean area without impediments stopping the sanitation of the vicinity. Citizens should be aware of global warming and should start helping out to stop pollution in the area. They can start recycling paper and canned products and collecting trash rather than littering.…
Secondly, increasing the private car dramatically in the city affects to human health and the environment negatively. Because, the car emits not only too much carbon dioxide, but also toxic gas. I reckon that the government should construct public transportation which produces less pollution and is more convenient for the people. Furthermore, they need to make rules to pay a fine if people use a petrol car in the city.…
