CHAPTER 1
PROBLEM AND ITS SETTINGS
INTRODUCTION Education in its broadest, general sense is the means through which the aims and habits of a group of people lives on from one generation to the next. Generally, it occurs through any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or acts. In its narrow, technical sense, education is the formal process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills, customs and values from one generation to another, e.g. instruction in schools.
“Education will lift you up.” “Read to achieve.” These are just some of the quotes which give motivation to everybody to aspire for knowledge for it is the key to success. Indeed the rapid growth of knowledge is unstoppable and this phenomenon will continue especially with the development of children with many big dreams and imagination which will surely surpass mankind’s achievement in the next decades to come.
Academics help to prepare you for the real world. You learn to read, write, solve math problems, all of which you are going to need in the future. It opens up doors to the world around you. If you couldn't read or write you would never be able to read a book, a newspaper, or signs that are all over the place. You'd live in a very isolated world where everything was foreign to you if you didn't have these skills. Imagine being picked up and placed in a foreign country...you couldn't read anything, you couldn't write anything, and you didn't understand the language... how would you feel? Schools don't just focus on academics though; they also place a big part on socialization. Academics are important, but so are the other things you learn in school! Students should be allowed to make their own choices, at least up to a point. We all know that a person will be able to do better in a subject that he or she likes.
