The book “A thousand colored dreams: the story of a young girl grown in Papua” written by Josephine Abaijah is an autobiographical essay, based on the real events. The major characters are taken from a real life and express the specific features and peculiarities of that time. The aim of this work is to review the book, using the basic means of analysis, and pay the attention of the reader to the major points, the author concentrates on. The writer, Josephine Abaijah, was born in Papua, New Guinea in 1944. She was the only woman elected to the House of Assembly in New Guinea in 1792. During her life she was re-elected two times. Firstly in 1977 and unsuccessfully in 1982. Later she spent fifteen years not working at the Parliament and in 1997 was elected again. She established and organized the political movement, called Papuna Besena and headed it. She struggled for the independence of her country and its separation from New Guinea, but it had no success. She supported the military revolution organized by Citiveni Rabuka in 1987. There were no women in the Parliament at that time. Josephine Abaijah was the first woman who achieved power and authority in the political life of the country. The traditions of Papua did not presupposed that, that is why she was asked a lot of questions from journalists about her methods of success and especially how she managed to get the majority of voices during the process of voting. Josephine answered that women are more honest people than man and they do not achieve success by mean of cheating and corruption.
